This is a relativly restrained (compared e.g.with Fatima) and impressive pilgrimage site overlooking and givind great views of Braga. Our tour coach took us through what must have been the park to a back way in near the hotel sparing us what would have been despite its beauty an impossible climb. Welllaid our gardens on several levels and a range of restrained statuary.We were amazed and impressed by the calm mid morning atmosphere but recognise that it could get very crowded and therefore less religious on high days and holidays.

This has been, and still is, a place of pilgrimage where the faithful would walk up to the church. At intervals on the way are various chapels depicting the stages of Jesus' journey to the cross. Platforms in the stairs on the higher levels also have fountains and statues. A very impressive place. Not being true pilgrims ourselves our tour bus dropped us at the top near the church and we walked down. It was still very impressive.
