We were a group of five and were pleasantly surprised by this gem Adega Machado restaurant, 700 meters walking distance from the center. The food was amazing to the tunes of different artist performing Fado. Excellent service and ambience. Top class. Highly recommended. Reasonable prices.

A fun dinner and fado show

I can't say that I know what fado is supposed to sound like, but I can say that I enjoyed the show that this place put on. We came as a medium-sized tourist group, and we were well taken care of. The singers are very talented and it was a great way to get a taste of the local culture!

A Very Lisbon Experience

Two American couples having a perfect night
The entire 4 hours flew by
I didn’t want it to end
The quality of the performances shocking me
for such a small room and for such quality voices
I was blown away
It took my mind away from everything and into the emotional experience of each performance “WOW”

The tasting menu was a bit more then just a taste
The food was prepared and displayed perfectly
We also thought that the veal entree ala cart was exceptional
Don’t forget to order a side of the homemade potato chips AMAZING
I especially loved the chocolate cake desert on the side
Don’t order the Long Island ice tea “they don’t know how to do alcohol lol
The wine flowed all night ounce we got that out of the way lol

The concierge at our hotel recommended this well-known spot, and we enjoyed the room, the food, the style of the place and the beautiful performances. I would not recommend going here for just the food, or just the Fado. You want to have both together over the evening. The courses are spaced out over the length of the performances, which adds to the meal and experience. The service is elegant and what you would expect in a slow-food restaurant. (The waiter carefully opened a bottle of wine, timing his twists of the corkscrew to not interfere with the next Fadista, who was about to sing.) The clientele is dressed up, and the full menu was 47Euros each, with additional wine. It was worth it and here is why: You don''t have to speak Portuguese to enjoy the Fado, you just have to listen.

Can't speak for the food - didn't have any. But I got their "cheesecake" (a deconstructed ice cream-y version of cheesecake) which is genuinely one of the BEST-CRAFTED desserts I've ever eaten... And the Fado? Beautiful, emotive, short (relatively - I've heard other fado is often 1 hour, this was maybe half) but really packed in the experience.

Just the right amount of tapas and fado

We enjoyed our early evening tapas and fado experience at Adega Machado. Since we'd been in Portugal for over a week, we'd heard fado on the streets, but we didn't really know what great fado sounded like until this experience. There was one male and one female singer who took turns, accompanied by both a Portuguese guitar and a classical guitar. At the end, both singers joined together for a finale. The music was sorrowful at times, coquettish at others, and always mesmerizing. And we all enjoyed the wine during the performance. Tapas consisted of bread, a yummy but unidentified cheese, prosciutto, and these delicious olives, marinated in some kind of garlic sauce. The experience was just over an hour, which was the perfect amount of time.

Traditional Fado, limited food menu

This place was recommended to us when we asked for suggestions of where we could watch some fado music. We probably should have looked at the menu before booking and seen how limited the options were and how expensive some of the dishes are. Prices are high to cover the cost of the entertainment but the choices were also very limited. If you want to see fado music then best to head to Alfama for a wider choice.

Amazing performances

An evening of fado music and dinner at Adega Machado was included as part of a tour of Portugal I was on in October 2019. We were a group of 16 and the restaurant looked after us very well. The food was delicious, but by far the highlight was definitely the performances. A variety of very talented singers took us through the poignant and lighter sides of fado, in a series of intimate performances. A fantastic evening, 4 star food and 5 star + performances.

Amazing Food and Music

The evening at Adega Machado was by far my favorite night in Lisbon. The Fado was beautiful and the food and service were excellent. I would definitely return if I am ever in Lisbon again.
