The visit starts when you type in your details then get your 'registration card' and go down a very dark staircase into a bleak room. We are told this was to experience life as a refugee. I was scared out of my wits as it was a bit like a haunted house experience and (we'd just been to the cloakroom where) we could hear recorded screams. What were we walking into? However, after that first room it was by and large quite dull. There were corridor after corridor of small holes at different heights to look through and sounds that were hard to make out. After that there were a couple of clever rooms but nothing I'd say that really matched the initial feeling or gave an accurate reflection of the refugee experience. It does need to be accessible for teens though. Also, it's worth noting i've been to a lot of exile, refugee, and war museums so have experienced a very wide variety of attempts to recreate certain feelings as well as seen much more detailed museums with larger exhibits. The Humanity House is worth a visit and has excellent goals (and I believe talks although I've not been to any) but if you do have those other experiences this is unlikely to match up to it, especially after the incredibly impressive and oppressive opening to the experience.

Moving and informative

This impressive exhibition is fascinating. They have tactfully curated a believable experience of what it would be like to flee your home and become a refugee. This is well produced and very effective. The stories of genuine refugees are all very moving and inspiring. LGBTQ friendly. Lovely cafe offered fresh ginger tea on the warm sunny terrace to warm you after the chilling experience. Not to be missed.

Engaging and enlightening guest speakers
Des 2018 • Sendiri
I've been here many times to go to the talks they give about various topics. Very helpful staff and they have very good speakers conducting the lectures. One of the most memorable was a talk about fake news in Eastern Europe. Very interesting subjects, and not super time consuming. Sign up for free beforehand through their facebook page to visit.

Gentle introduction to the refugee experience

Given the previous reviews, we were expecting a more immersive type of simulation. The Humanity House is interesting, and worthwhile, but very gently and allows you to stay fully in your comfort zone.
The temporary exhibit now on (December 2018) with vignettes from 8 refugees in The Netherlands is a highlight and worth planning an additional 30-45 minutes onto your visit.

See the world with other eyes

This is one of the best, maybe the best, museum I have ever been. A very nice staff that introduced us to the museum and gave recommendations. They were also interested in our opinion/feelings about it. The exhibition opened the eyes and made some feelings refugees might experience clearer to the visitor. You need to take your time to go through it to experience it. It is possible to go there even without speaking Dutch however, the videos are in Dutch with English subtitles.
Overall, this museum was a great experience and you leave it with many questions and new views on some events.

Fascinating interpretative experience

In the home of the international court of justice this gallery offers an interactive experience rather than a traditional museum with objects and pictures. After taking you on a refugee experience, the visit ends with detailed stories of asylum from many parts of the world, these are worth spending time reading and understanding - recommended.

An eye opener
Jul 2018 • Teman
Saw this when looking for things to do in a day trip to The Hague and came across this..after reading what it was about I had to go. And I’m glad I did.
It opened my eyes to how people lived in war torn countries and how they escaped.
Absolutely loved it, and found it very cheap to visit and think it is worth more.
Would definitely come back again.

Must visit in The Hague

Humanity House was a fantastic visit today and I’d recommend anyone to visit. You’re given an idea of what it’s like to be a refugee and there was a photo exhibition afterwards. There’s also a cafe for coffee after. Humanity House is easy to find, central and can easily be visited in less than an hour. I wish there was something similar in the UK but for a visitor to The Hague I very much recommend visiting.

Very emotional experience

This is definitely the most emotional experience I have had in the context of a museum... very sensorial and personal in a way. Well done!

This place should be compulsory visiting for all Brexit voters from the UK 🇬🇧. Never again will people vote to exclude legitimately exiled by conflict people of all colours from our country.
The experience of being “processed” as a refugee is not one I will forget in a hurry. Very humbling and helps you understand what these people who are so often viewed as money grabbers and scroungers by the UK press really go through in search of a better life for themselves and their families.
This kind of museum would never catch on in the UK due to the right wing press but for any socially minded visitor it is a must.
Congratulations a brilliant place.
