For me this was a totally unexpected surprise! A leap into an artistic experience of the ancient art of hand weaving. The laboratory housed in an old Franciscan church was the perfect setting for this medieval artisan laboratory. Fascinating seeing all the ancient symbols, e.g. the Griffin of Perugia woven into these delicate wefts. Perfect place to buy gifts for friends who have a cultural sensitivity of the ancient crafts. The founder's grand daughter has a mission to keep this antique art alive and her passion went far below

Every single one in our group of 25 was AMAZED!!!
This location is absolutely a must for anyone who wishes to feel and touch the authenticity and the true craftsmanship spirit of the ordinary people’s life in Italy, as well as their lifestyle soaked with millennials history.
You’ll be delighted by a homey and friendly atmosphere, and will find absolutely unexpected and surprising connection of the craftsmanship to the arts of Leonardo da Vinci or Giotto.
The history, tradition and the art-form of the Italian textile and weaving, which had been carefully and honourably preserved by Brozzetti family, is as rich and breathtaking as the Italian history itself.
Finally, not only learning and exploring about the authenticity of the traditional craftsmanship art, but also the opportunity to touch, experience and personally feel a demonstration of the creation process gives an exceptional and deep insight into the Spirit and the continual History of life in Italy.
Absolutely a must!!!

This location is pretty far from city centre, so a little hard to get to without a car. It is really interesting however. It is probably best to phone ahead to make sure that someone will be there. Also known as "Marta's workshop", it is located in the decommissioned Church of San Francesco delle Donne. If you get a chance to visit while the looms are in use it would be really interesting - we were just able to walk around and look at some of the weavings and looms in the building. There is also a small gift shop.

A highlght of our time in Perugia! We came across this active workshop in an old Franciscan church taking a different way home to our apartment. What a fabulous surprise! We spent a very pleasurable hour or so looking at the machinery, textiles and talking with Marta and her apprentices.
One apprentice was recreating a beautiful and intricate pattern made for a client twenty years ago using silver thread. It is indeed a skilled and absorbing traditional artisan craft! The complexity of the process from design, making the 'punch cards' setting up the machinery and actually hand weaving is amazing. Such a precious craft to retain.
We bought some beautiful pieces to take home as gifts for family and so glad to find something so authentic to share with loved ones at home.
We wish all the best to Marta and her apprentices in the future. Such craftmanship deserves to be retained and celebrated!

After reading about Marta and her work on Trip Advisor we made sure to add it to our list. We loved our visit and Marta kindly demonstrated how her beautiful and unique textiles are created. Her english was great and she was so inviting and excited to share her talents. She has two beautiful dogs who we couldnt help but pat and smile as they followed her around the studio.
I would recommend this experience to any one visiting Perugia and make sure you purchase a momento of your visit. Each piece is so unique and special because of the skill required to make it. Thanks Marta!

Such enthusiasm and hard work! Marta loves what she does and can enthuse anyone with her weaving skills and knowledge. It was a beautiful building, and amazing textiles are produced slowlythere. The amount of work involved is amazing. I bought a beautiful and unique scarf there, along with cards which will be mounted as mini works of art! Lovely dogs as well, such characters and so well behaved.

As someone who loves craftsmanship, I was blown away by this exceptional workshop/museum in Perugia, which is housed in a stunning Franciscan church. Marta, who manages the venue, comes from a long line of textile weavers. Her knowledge and passion infuse visitors with a deep appreciation of the traditions her family has kept alive. Marta will provide a fascinating guided tour in English, and I cannot thank her enough for fitting my small group in when she was frantically busy. Please visit this gem in Perugia.

The Museo-Laboratorio di tessitura a Mano Giuditta Brozzetti is a hidden gem in Perugia.
The place was the ex-church and includes a laboratory with huge antique weaving machines and a display to exhibit beautiful textile works made by hands.
You can also see that their worker is working with these traditional weaving machines with his legs and hands.
The Umbrian textiles are delicate and colorful with many complex patterns of the design.
And Marta, who is the owner of the laboratory and a great artist, dedicates to her weaving works to maintain their traditions from her great grandmother.
She told me about historical information such as the former-church, the Umbrian textiles, the famous painters who painted these textiles in their art, as well as the story of her great grandmother, who founded their laboratory.

We stayed near Perugia for one night and only found out about the textile museum at the last minute. It was too late to organise a tour. Marta was kind enough to let us visit on the weekend, for free, to see the machinery and the textiles, and meet one of the workers. There was information available to read, and we got a fascinating glimpse into the development of weaving.

My husband and I visited this working museum recently. I drag him through a lot of museums and old churched, but he was equally as fascinated with this one as I was. We did not schedule a tour but Marta met us and gave us a summary of the looms and demonstrated how they work. Her assistant was using the large jacquard loom, so we were able to watch him in action. The place is a beautiful old church. They have a history of the fabrics, of their place, and of the church. She was delightful, spoke great English, and was excited to talk about the looms and answer any questions we had. I had no idea about how the jacquard loom was actually the first computer with punch cards! I am so glad we took the time to find this place!

Gentile Luigi,
Spero a presto,
Marta
