Gallery is inside the palace, several museum with in too see and all are very interesting to see.

Museum is full of renaissance art work, but much more to see than so nice art, lots of statues, furniture and lots of other things to see with in the walls of the palace.

It’s up there in the better museums to see in Florence with out thousands of people.

As an art museum, this is truly terrible. The glare and lighting is so bad, it's impossible to appreciate most of the paintings, many of which also hang so high on the walls it is impossible to view them in detail.

This gallery is part of the Pitti palace and you cannot (nor should not) miss walking through it to appreciate the great collection of art.

The Palantine Gallery is part of the Pitti Palace which also includes the Royal Apartments, the Gallery of Modern Art, the Treasury of the Grand Dukes, the Porcelain Museum, the Carriages Museum, the Costume Gallery and the Boboli Gardens. Our tickets cost EUR16-00 each and did not cover the Gardens. Also the Costume Gallery was closed.

The core of the Pitti Palace dates from 1458 however the impressive building that currently stands here is largely due to the efforts of the Medici family who bought the Palace in 1549.

The Palatine Gallery is the main gallery of the Pitti Palace and contains over 500 artworks from the mainly Renaissance period, which are displayed in 32 rooms. The Gallery leads into the Royal Apartments which comprises another 14 rooms (including the bathroom used by Napoleon when he took up residence here).

The opulence on display is quite unbelievable when one considers the poverty that surrounded them. The frescoed ceilings in most of the rooms are beautiful and there are some exquisite pieces of furniture. However the star attraction is the artwork hung, in what appears to be no particular order, hither and thither over the walls up to the ceilings in some cases and also above doorways. Reminded me of the Louvre.

The artwork included numerous paintings by Raphael, Titian, Peter Paul Reubens, Van Dyck, Caravaggio, Lippi, Verocchio, Veronese and many more.

The Royal Apartments are wonderfully furnished with period furniture and frescoed ceilings though the artwork tends to be of portraits of Medici family members which I found to be quite boring given what had preceded it.

The Gallery of Modern Art is a bit of a misnomer as the paintings cover the period from the the 18th century to the early 20th century. I thought some of the particularly large paintings of the countryside and battle scenes were quite good.

We did not visit the Porcelain Gallery or the Treasury as we were galleried out.

They, as well as the Gardens, which looked magnificent from the views you could see from the upstairs windows, can wait till our next visit.

Well worth a visit.

We were lucky to see this place with the guide who took us around the rooms and explain very well about all pieces of art and history. We bought a combine ticket for uffizi gallery and palazzo Pitti. In Uffizi you can get an audio guide and everything is later in chronological order. In palazzo many paintings are mixed and matched on display how they would of been originally hanged.

The Palatine Gallery is one of several museums included in Palacio Pitti. It has an extraordinary collection of Renaissance paintings that were part of the Medici's private collection. This gallery runs through the royal apartments.
The presentation is a little confusing, with numerous pictures displayed in no chronological order or otherwise, which makes it difficult to view them in an orderly manner.

Palazzo Pitti might be the most impressive museum of Florence and one of the best in the world.
Houndreds of years ago the Medici family - one of the richest dynasties the world has ever seen - used to live here. Over generations this family created an environment in which art and humanism flourished. One example: Lorenzo de Medici asked for the best two pupils of Ghirlandaio (a Florentinian master in fresco painting) - and Michelangelo was sent as one of them to become a sculptor at Lorenzo’s palace. I uploaded a sculpture that shows the young Michelangelo creating his first marble work „the Satyr“.
The palace today almost bursts with sculptures and paintings and leaves a deep impression of the wealth of art and culture the European continent produced both during and after the Renaissance.

Is such a privilege to visit Florentine Museums without tourists...you feel so special!!!
So after 40 years I dedicated 3 hours to the museums of Palazzo Pitti and La Galleria Palatina and the Royal/Ducal apartments are the top of the top. The paintings that adorn the walls are mesmerising, the rooms heavily decorated and the wonderful Pietra Dura tables are there just for...me. I went at the opening at 8,30 and it really was a private touring...amazing, unforgettable!

This was the main reason I came to the Palazzo Pitti - to see the apartments. The collection of art is unbelievably massive. However, unlike in the Uffizi, the art is well labeled and very useful information cards give a brief history of each piece. The furnishings are very well cared for and really gave me an idea as to how these families lived during their heyday. The staff members I interacted with were friendly and very knowledgeable. I was thrilled to see Jan van Huysum’s “Vase of Flowers” on display having being returned from Germany last year after being stolen by the Nazis during WW2.
