The church is so beautiful, with so many outstanding paintings and chapels inside. It also has the tomb of Sandro Botticelli, Amerigo Vespucci and Caroline Bonaparte, the latter.

This is probably the most beautiful church in Florence with great fresco artwork from Botticelli and Ghirlandaio. The ceiling is breathtaking with the fantastic perspective creating an unprecedented 3D effect. Stand in the middle of the church to experience it.
Situated outside the most touristic area and quiet. Access is also free.

I LOVE this church - it was very quiet, free and easy to find. If you are even a little bit interested in architecture and/or history I recommend a visit. It is a very dark academia aesthetic for those who like that sort of thing

Amazing place 300 meters from busy Florence.
There is so much there and it’s virtually deserted. It’s got some serious history that nobody seems to realize. I’m not going to say what’s there but you must pay it a visit.

Perhaps my favorite church in Florence! Love the music playing, the extraordinary artwork, the tombs, Giotto's huge, beautiful and colorful Crucifix and of course everything Botticelli❤️

What a stunning church and a true gem in Florence.
Located in an ugly square, don't be fooled by the simple exterior, the church features a gorgeous interior and wonderful acoustics.

Of all the places in Florence, this one moved me the most. It’s free to get in and we had to look to find out where to make a donation. The ceiling is painted, there are large alcoves which I think are dedicated to different Saints, each one different, but meaningful. The stone work is actually plaster work, painted to look like marble, and I feel better for that. Every now and then they had appropriate music. It was quiet in there, you could go where you wanted. There were nuns dressed like people from the UK think Monks dress, going about their daily business. But that’s only half of it.

Looking to the river, on the right-hand side of the front is an entrance to a quadrangle. Nice and pleasant, with a dining room at the back with a painting and the whole story of the painting explained. Really added to the place

The church was originally completed in the middle of the 13th century and was part of a convent complex. Substantial renovations and reconstructions were undertaken in the first half of the 17th century to transform the church, both internally and externally, into a baroque-style.

The exterior facade was rebuilt in travertine in the late 19th century and contains one large portal with a carved wooden door and surrounds. The portal has an embedded column on either side of it as well as a niche with pilasters and elaborate cornices. Above the portal is a lunette containing a beautiful 16th century glazed terracotta carving of A Coronation of the Virgin and Saints thought to be by Benedetto Buglioni. On the next level there are two rectangular windows above the niches on the ground level with a central niche above the portal which has three elaborate pilasters on either side of it. In the niche on the top level just below the roof is the coat of arms of Florence which replaced a previous Coat of Arms of the Medici Robbiano.

The campanile was built in the 13th/14th centuries and contains four bells dating from the 17th and 18th centuries.

The interior has a single nave with a very long transept which has several chapels including those to the Vespucci family where Sandro Botticelli and Amerigo Vespucci are also buried.

The interior walls and vaulted ceilings are adorned with some magnificent paintings and frescoes including St Augustine and his Study by Botticello and St Jerome and his Study by Domenico Ghirlandaio, both of which were painted in the 1480's. Other frescoes by Ghirlandaio include the Last Supper in the Refectory and the Madonna della Misericordia in the Vespucci chapel. There is a magnificent crucifix at one end of the transept attributed to Giotto who painted it in the early 14th century.

The high altar, built of various different stones in what appears to be a mosaic fashion, also has lots of gilded candlesticks and ornamental features together with several marble statues on either side. The altar is quite ornately beautiful.

At the same end of the transept as the Giotto crucifix you can see the cloister.

Well worth a visit.

Beautiful church close to the bridge. Easy to walk by since it doesn’t catch your attention like other churches in the city, but it’s so beautiful inside. Looks way bigger on the interior

This lovely church, which has no admission fee, seems to be overlooked by most visitors to Firenze.
One of the many beautiful buildings in the city, it is noteworthy for being the burial site of the Renaissance artist Sandro Botticelli and also that of the man after whom two continents are named - once-local resident Amerigo Vespucci. As usual for Florence, plenty of superb works of art.
Well worth a visit.
