“Great for hiking, not for sunbathing ”

Great place for a beach walk close to Syracuse. You can park your car close to punto della molla. It's a small parking but safe because guards of a nearby hotel/beach were present (I'm not sure if they always are, we maybe just got lucky). The cliffs and vegetation make for great viewing points of Ortigia and the sea. There are some vacant houses and even bunkers probably used in WW2 at punto della molla ready for exploration. The hike up to punta del gigante is about 3.5 km. It took us about 3 hours to hike up to there and back again, but we took lots of breaks to hike up the rocks for better viewing points. It's not a great place for sunbathing as there is not much sand, mostly sharp rocks.

Parco Marino del Plemmirio You can take bus no 23 and ask to get out at Murro Di Porco. It is circular route.The times are on the city bus website but it no longer goes from station or via Rubino but the bus stops in the via Umberto park where the Palermo And Catania buses go from. The 23 bus only costs 1.20€ and if you just want a ride out into the country with great views of Siracusa then just do the round trip

This park is beautiful. You will need a car and also to walk to some beaches, but it will be worthed.

Car Stolen - AVOID

After seeing the attractive photos and positive reviews on Trip Advisor, my partner and I thought we would stop here en route to Ragusa/Noto for the next stage of our trip after leaving our hotel in Syracusa.

After finding a nice beach and a little walk around the back of the 5 star hotel to see if we could find any more beauty spots/views of Ortigia, we came back to the central residential street to see our car in the process of being stolen around 100m away. It was parked among approximately 20 other cars, time midday.

I ran to the hotel to call the police and whilst they said this had never happened before, this was a professional job and would not recommend visiting if you have a car. Unfortunately we had all our luggage and passports in and it completely ruined what otherwise was a fantastic tour around Sicily.

Morale of the story: make sure your car insurance covers theft as basic insurances do not.

Plemmirio Capo Maddalena Walk: Spectacular landscape and views

We stayed 8 days in Siracusa in October and so one day we took bus number 23 to visit the Plemmirio area. There was a problem with the bus route that day (!) so we got off in the southern part of the reserve near 'Varco' (access to sea) 22 and walked along the road, this was ok (no stray dogs etc) and we arrived at the Capo Murro di Porco lighthouse where there are good views. After that we found the path (from the lighthouse you have to walk back towards the road and the path is evident on your right) along the north coast of the headland. This part is SPECTACULAR, from the lighthouse to Varco 33 included we saw no-one at all, and no rubbish either -beautiful landscapes first of dwarf palms then gradually changing to heathers and herbs, spectacular sea views and of Siracusa/Ortigia. The path threads along by the sea, sometimes close, sometimes further away, it's a track sometimes among the undergrowth and the rocks are often rough so you'll be better off with good walking shoes or at least trainers, no open sandals or flipflops! We stopped to picnic at Varco 33 which has a mini beach (just for 2!) of sand. There are some rough steps in the rock to get down but you need to look around to find them. Between varco 33 and 34 the cliffs are tall and really spectacular. Varco 34 has ruined buildings and is apparently popular and in fact it was the only place we saw people, and a lot of rubbish....If the buses are running normally, walking inland from varco 34 the number 23 bus stops where there is a shrine and a lot of rubbish bins. Otherwise if you are good walkers, carry on right along the road in the direction of Siracusa (not towards Varco 35 unless you want to visit that) and you get to Lido Sacramento where there are fish farms, which are also restaurants, specializing in shell fish. If you then continue to the junction (as you turn inland from the coast and there are signs to Fontane Bianche etc) buses 21 and 22 also go by.

Beautiful Coastline

Having eventually found Bay 34, after taking a wrong turn or two, we pulled the hire car in as tightly as possible to the side of the dirt track and hoped for the best. A short walk took us to coast where there was a tiny beach down to our right which was pretty packed with people and then a rocky area to the left which we chose.

We got a small spot to lay our things and enjoy the views looking across to Ortigia, Syracuse. Immediately in front is a very shallow area of sea, sheltered by large rocks. Here I was able to snorkel and there are some fish, it's literally only a foot or two deep so also great for kids to paddle and see small fish around their feet!

We enjoyed this spot in Plemirrio and I think if we had more time to explore there would be other less crowded beaches but saying that the people didn't ruin our experience of this pretty spot.

The parts we were able to see were beautiful, but it is a pity that they built so many houses .... They stole from the beauty of the place.

Beautiful place

We have seen 35 point, its a sandy one. 24-26 point and neighbors were with rocks. All off the points are differently beautiful and picturesque. It was hard to get there, so I have made a photo of the map.

Bello molto bello, mare pulito, prettamente scogliera.
Peccato trovare i rifiuti di cibo abbandonati o sigarette tra gli scogli da gente del posto...
Loro che dovrebbero essere i primi a mantenere questo posto pulito ed invece....

Beautiful very beautiful, clean sea, just cliff.
It's a pity to find the waste of abandoned food or cigarettes among the rocks by locals ...
They should be the first to keep this spot clean and instead ....

amazing location

I will surely go back and spend a full day or more.
The clear clean beach is an attraction for all to see. There's a few lido's
in the surroundings too. I don't mind pampering myself!
