On our first day in Palermo, we went straight to this museum in order to gain some historical knowledge and context of this old city. In this beautiful building (with a fountain and garden in its courtyard), we were met with some unique and telling physical findings of Palermo and Sicily’s old past. We really appreciated the statues and the objects, but unfortunately the storytelling was lacking. We were missing timelines, more historical background, maps and and just more information in general. At several times, we found ourselves wondering what we were looking at. Everything was translated into English, but we were truly missing more informative signs about context/location. We read more about excavations than the objects’ (possible) usage. One room was however named after a famous Syrian anthropologist who lost his life in protecting the ancient city of Palmyra which brought a tear to both our eyes. We also loved the room dedicated to the different languages of Sicily but it was much too brief.
We still appreciated our visit and will definitely go back when we return to Palermo, but the museum left us hungry for more ;-)

With the proper care and publicity, this museum could be turned into a premier museum of Sicily. Maybe even Italy.
The collection is fantastic. There is some wonderful history to be found in these walls. Roman, Greek, Moors, Normans, all of the occupiers in Sicily's extensive history. I found the building itself to be a gem as well. The exhibits require you to walk around the outdoor courtyard to reach, which at it's centre contains a beautiful garden and fountain with little turtles frolicking around. There is seating here too, where you can enjoy the greenery and the classic European feel of this area.
But back to the exhibits themselves. I probably spent a good hour and a half admiring all this place has to offer, but you could easily spend an entire morning or afternoon if you took your time.

One of the best archeological museums I have visited. Information was provided to put the historical items in perspective. The interior of the palazzo/museum if wonderful. Nice coffee bar. Not much to look at on the outside but don't be fooled by that. Venture in and retreat in time.

Surrounded by busy Palermo this place offers a tranquil, slightly escapist athmosphere. Information boards are in Italian and English, which is nice, but the attitude is rather academic. If you know what you‘re looking at here, great. If you bring teenagers, make sure they‘ve been well fed before and are ready to invest some patience (entry is free for everyone under 28, and teachers with certificate).

Honestly I didn’t want to visit this museum but I bought a combined ticked including visit to the museum. I was nicely surprised by the archeological treasures exposed at the museum. It is lovely place with nice garden inside. Even if you aren’t an archeological fan would be a really nice experience visiting the place.

Felt like home.
Don't misunderstand it; the early antiquity years of Sicily, weren't Roman but Greek (and a bit of Phoenician).
This place pulses of splendour. It's one of the finest Greek Antiquity museums I ever saw, and sends you back 2,500 years, when the Greeks were the naval megaforce of Mediterranean Sea, spreading their colonies from Spain to the Black Sea.
Some of the most magnificent items from classical greek ages of Magna Grecia, in a very beautiful building.
A real history jewel!

On a recent trip, I wanted to learn more about Magna Graecia, the Greek colonies in Sicily and Southern Italy. My wife and I visited a number of Greek ruins (Agrigento, Syracuse, and Taormina) and three archaeological museums that focused on Magna Graecia (Palermo, Agrigento, and Reggio Calabria). Each museum has its strengths. The museum in Palermo is very good. In total, the three museums display a wide variety of artifacts that demonstrate just how large Greece's Italian footprint was. They explain the chronological, historical and cultural context of the Greek colonies, including their relationship to indigenous peoples, Carthaginians, and Romans, their ties to the Greek City States that sponsored them, and their competition with each other. In short, they tell an important story that is generally ignored, a story important to developing Roman culture and therefore to Western Culture in general. Spend 2-4 hours in this museum.

Having seen the incredible Archaeological Museum in Naples, I had great expectations from this place: after all, Sicily has been on the crossroads of so many cultures throughout the centuries. Well, I did not get my wish: this museum, while cheap, is anything but interesting; my guess is that it contains the private collection of somebody who decided to donate instead of pay the taxes... It's of no interest at all. Add rude service in the shop and you know you should skip it.

Dears,
My name is Nourhan Adel, i am working as assistant manager for the director of the National Museum of Egyptian Civilization, Cairo, Egypt.
I am also a master student at the Faculty of Tourism and Hotel Management, Helwan University, Cairo.
Currently i am working on a task for my master regarding “visitor’s behavior analysis” and how to manage the visit in Regional Archeological Museum (Palermo, Italy).
It would be so great if you can provide me with some of your data.
Can someone confirm that all exhibits have now reopened? For December 2019. Also it would be great to know the opening hours from Dec. 24 to January 2. Thanks.
