These markets are a must see when visiting Palermo. All the food and tasting you can do. I think a guide would have been helpful here, as we didn’t know what to taste and some suggestions would have helped.

This market is simply fantastic: if you come from outside the island it can seems strange, chaotic, full of colors and noises but it's very typical and fascinating. There you can find all the street food of the city, a lot of other products and a big amount of people. The prices are some of the best and as you can imagine the service is like a place like this can offer. Very funny and top street food

You can't be in Palermo and not go to at least one of its main markets. The sights, the sounds, the smells are something else. For someone who is simply perusing without any aim to buy, the hustle may get overwhelming pretty quickly. Which is probably the reason Vucciria - the most compact of the three - is my favorite.

The market is a different world at night time, amazing atmosphere, lots of characters, and prices are very good, went one night on our way back from the beach, ended up getting back at eleven still covered in sand🤣

Of the three markets, Ballaro is the biggest, Capo is also significant; Vucciria is almost not worth calling a market. Also, Palermo is a city where there are stalls on almost every street corner, even outside the major markets. Supermarkets have correspondingly small fruit and veg sections.

Haftasonlarında kalabalık olan 700 yıllık bu pazar yerinde ünlü Italyan sokak yemeklerini bulabilirsiniz / This famous market place more then 700 years old , better to visit on weekends for taste the street foods.

... albeit a bit disappointing as we expected a much larger fish market... Part of the Vucciria, at least from the entrance at Piazza San Domenico, down to Piazza Caracciolo by Discesa Maccheronai (Macaroni [Downhill] Street), has cheap antiques, some groceries stores (with great veggies, fruit, nuts and herbs) and a few places specialized in "Street Food", more for tourists than true Sicilians. The one "Street Food" seller we found was on Piazza Caracciolo: he was selling Pani Ca Meusa (Spleen sandwiches) and looked as authentic as one could. He told us that most places in the Vucciria have closed down and only a few survive and complained to us that the area gets alive only on weekends when the "movida" seeps in. The whole place spelled decay all over. We had lunch at a local restaurant down Discesa Maccheronai: it was OK, but only a vague memory of true Palermitan Street food.

We were lucky enough to have chosen a B&B close to the Capo market. We ventured out and checked out the other two, but found that they didn't have much that interested us, especially given we didn't have a kitchen to cook in.

The Capo market became our daily morning routine to get some fresh fruits, cooked sardines and calamari on the go and a few souvenirs as well to take home.

Please feel free to check out our pictures!
