If you are a person interested in Catholic History you can not miss it.
The museum preserved the archeological artefacts, collection of paintings, wooden scultures, vestments and you feel the atmosphere of " The Council of Trent " happened ( 16 C )

Trente was struck by thunder and lightning, so we escaped into the museum with our Trentino-card. The religious exhibition was beautiful, but not our interest at all. I did like the old Gregorian song books though, as well as the view into the cathedral.

Entrance is included with the Trentino Card.
Sunday morning at opening time was so peaceful but it was much busier later.
Did not expect such a vast, stylish museum.
Started at the top with the lavish Hall of Treasure and the richly decorated vestments.
The Flemish Tapestries on the floor below are truly magical carpets. You could look out onto the cathedral interior and hear the hymns which just added to the atmosphere. Andrea Pozzo paintings to admire and an entertaining Touchscreen Tour of the Tower .
The First Floor holds the Council of Trent 'goodies' and other rare manuscripts Great Video on the History of the Cathedral as well.

A great museum for anyone interested in religion and history. The Council of Trent (16C) was momentous because it made so many decrees to counter the growing Protestantism in Europe and its history and artefacts are all here.
We found the whole place absolutely fascinating and while there is an information sheet in English in each room, the detailed explanations are in Italian and German (therefore, handy if you can speak those)
If you have a Trentino Guest card, it's free to get in so we gave a nice donation because it was so good.

I then entered the Palazzo Pretorio to visit the diocesan museum hosted inside. The collection is very large and ranges from the 11th to the 19th century and there is also a section dedicated to the Cathedral's treasury hosted inside one of the rooms overlooking the church's main nave.

A little hidden away to the side of the cathedral in a corner of Piazza Duomo is the entrance to the Diocesan Museum. We gained free entry to it by virtue of our Trentino card, which our hotel in Trento (the NH Trento) had given us free of charge.
There were very few other visitors at the time of our visit, which – while OK from our point of view – is a little sad, because the museum is certainly worth a visit. There’s some fine artwork on display, including a depiction of the Council of Trent, which took place partly in the adjacent Duomo. An unusual interior view, looking down into the altar area of the duomo, is also available from an upper floor; and there’s a collection of religious vestments and other religious artefacts too. Well worth a visit, even for the non-religious.

This is a great museum. Numerous quality artworks on display. Great view to interior of duomo from top floor. Could so easily be a score of 5 if they would provide translations for foreigners. It doesnt make sense not to educate your visitors of the displays. With so many museums providing audio headphones in a number if languages, it just doesnt make sense to not do this. We would really have appreciated having details and history not just if the exhibits but for detailed information on the Counsel of Trento. .

Dear Loreen, thank you for your review. We know that we have to improve translations for foreigners visitors and we're studying a wide range of new educational tools in italian and English. Anyway, in the Council of Trento's room there are information sheets in English and German and our multilingual audioguides, although a little bit outdated, provide a good number of information about the objects on display.
We hope to see you again next summer, when we will have completed the general revision of museum's labels, printed text panels and audioguide.

We enjoyed the interesting collection of paintings, wooden sculptures, bishops vestments and popes rings. Labels were only in Italian with English documents printed on separate sheets. Personally i found this hard to identify exactly which artefact was being described. The collection is great and interestingly organised within a fantastic building. Plan to spend 1-2 hours for 5 euros masking this great value.

Most tourists in the Piazza del Duomo enjoy the impressive fountain or eat and drink in the cafes and restaurants that line the piazza. But if you want to spend an hour or two learning about Trento, the Council of Trent, and or just enjoy the many works of art, you can't go wrong with a visit to this surprisingly vast museum. You'll also be treated to a view of the interior of the Duomo itself from a balcony overlooking the choir and alter. It's really something to enjoy.

Probably one of the best cathedral/museums I have visited. Doable in an hour or so but don't miss small cubby holes in the walls. If access is not blocked off, go in. I will devulge the surprise.

Buongiorno. Il sito ufficiale - che non ho scritto io - riporta una regola molto precisa: "Non introdurre animali, con la sola eccezione dei cani guida per le persone non vedenti". Non si parla affatto di animali in trasportini o borse.
Dato che la regola c'è ed è più che logica, il minimo sarebbe rispettarla e farla rispettare, nell'interesse del museo e dei suoi visitatori, che non è detto gradiscano l'imposizione dei cani altrui. Si ricordi che la mancanza di serietà non paga mai, soprattutto a lungo termine.
