A lesser known of the main basilicas in the city it is another one of the oldest churches of Milan. Founded in the 8th century it still presents a typical paleochristian structure and style, probably the only one left in the city still presenting this kind of style which was very common in the city´s early history. Very simple and unadorned it is quite nice to check out especially since there are no tourists around and it feels very peaceful. The crypt is the highlight of the building.

This morning the persistent rain did not prevent me from a detour from the route to revisit this basilica of ancient origins and with some peculiarities, such as the presbytery raised above the floor of the nave and the original Romanesque crypt.
As usual there was no one in the church (except the person who was cleaning it) and so I could admire the inside and the crypt with absolute calm and deep silence. Among the works of art I point out the Madonna del Pianto, a touching fifteenth-century fresco, detached and transferred here from the demolished church of San Calocero.
Really indispensable if you are just nearby.

A few days ago I revisited this early Christian church, which has the title of Minor Roman Basilica, and for whose history (including the strange nickname of "house of the Magician") I refer to my previous reviews.
The visit was linked to a tour of the nativity scenes in the historic center and I saw the one set up here.
The crypt was also open, which has maintained its original Lombard appearance, now transformed into a chapel for the adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, and the baptistery was also open, which, unlike the church, is modern, built by Paolo Mezzanotte in 1932.
In the baptistery the simple baptismal font stands out, dug into a small Roman column which, it is said, was the one used by Saint Ambrose to easily climb onto the back of his mule Betta.
As always the church was practically deserted; yet it is a jewel,
