We really loved this experience. Was a lot of fun and the quality of the teaching, ingredients and equipment was fantastic. Highly recommended.

My partner and I had an incredible experience at our private cooking class with Donatella. She was very quick to respond via email about setting up a class, and she was very accommodating to our travel schedule. We started our class at about 10:30am, and we were greeted with water and coffee. We cooked for several hours, taking breaks to enjoy our delicious cooking. I highly recommend taking a class! We were able to take the extra food back to our hotel to have as a snack later. This was our favorite part of visiting Genoa!!

On 19 July 2022 my wife and I joined Chef Donatella and her English interpreter in the Genova Chef Per Caso kitchen for an excellent, understandable and fun 3 hour course in Genoese cooking. Chef Donatella’s instructions were professional and packed with key bits of information to help us produce consistent, high quality results back home. She included recipes (in English), instructions and an apron with the course.
I asked had that the course focus on two Genovese specialties- Focaccia and pesto.
Here is what we covered in the three hours:
- Tradizionale focaccia genovese
- Focaccia with onion
- Rocco focaccia with cheese
- Pesto Genovese
- Potatoes gnocchi
- Ricotta ravioli with walnut sauce
- Canestrelli cookies
.
Other courses We have taken while traveling have focused on entertaining participants with simple content.
The Chef Per Caso course was packed with information but presented so well that we are both confident we can reproduce our results at home. It was both enjoyable and worthwhile, we both highly recommend attending the next time you are on Genoa.

What a perfect way to spend a few hours in Genova... we learned how to make froccachia, ravioli, pesto , traditional walnut sauce, cookies....donatella was wonderful in instructing us, giving us tips , telling us history, as was Laura in translating. They were so fun and made us laugh - we just had so much fun cooking, then eating !!! We did realize that we need a lot more toys for our kitchen, but the food was so delicious , we are going to do it as soon as we get home !!

My children and I (4 adults) took a cooking class at Chef per Caso during our stay in Genoa.  It was definitely the highlight of our trip!  Donatella and her translator (Barbara) were great host.  We prepared focaccia (2 different kinds), pesto, pasta, vegetable pie, and cookies.  Everything was made from scratch with the freshest ingredients.  The food turned out amazing!  We enjoyed eating all the food that we had cooked and they packed the leftovers for us for our train ride.  I would highly recommend this experience if you are in the area.

We had a wonderful time at the cooking class! The chef was very knowledgeable and fun! We made traditional food from the region including pesto and focaccia. The chef taught us all of the little details the make good food great food! She knew a good amount of English and even had a translator for us to make it even easier. It made a trip to Genoa well worth it. She knows so much about the culture here and was happy to teach us as well. It truly made our experience in Genoa a great one. I would 10/10 recommend!

I took a private 3+ hour class with Donatella. It was a truly marvelous experience. She is a talented chef and teacher. I learned many Genovese recipes that I plan on serving to friends and family in NY. Besides learning a lot, it was great fun, lots of laughs.

On our family vacation to Liguria, we attended a cooking class with Donatella while on a day trip to Genoa. This cooking class – and spending time with bubbly Donatella and her charming English speaking helper, Simona - was an absolute highlight of our trip.

I emailed Donatella after seeing the listing on tripadvisor, and checking out her website and yelp (where I've also posted this review.) I emailed her and she responded within hours. She let me know availability and was absolutely accommodating to our request for vegetarian dishes only.

I had a good feeling about the class even before we got to Genoa as Donatella 1. didn't request payment up front (always a question when booking internationally) and 2. emailed the day before to reconfirm. The price was also fair and comparable per person to cooking classes in the U.S.

Her well established and equipped facility is a fifteen minute walk along mainroads from Genoa Principe station. Google walking directions were accurate - it looks confusing because of the many overpassing roads, but basically just keep walking one street up from the harbor opposite the cruise ships and you will get there just fine.

We were greeted by Donatella and her friend Simona, who we understand gives excellent tours of Genoa and is a delight. (Her email is simona.morelli@gmail.com.) Donatella had asked her to help to ensure we understood all the instructions.

Six of us attended the class, each taking turns working on one of the five courses we would later be eating others observing or working on prepping for the next round. Donatella was great at demonstrating and explaining the procedure and reasoning for the various methods and ingredients - we made two variations on most dishes to contrast and compare. It was therefore fun but also truly educational. She even answered our questions about the many wonderful gadgets in her well equipped kitchen and we each left with a mental shopping list of kitchen gadgets to buy at home.

The lesson moved along at a brisk pace, and soon there were delicious aromas emanating from the ovens. We wrapped up the cooking and sat down to eat all the courses we had prepared at Donatella's excellent direction. It was all delicious and a wonderful way to spend a few hours. We took home the leftovers and are excited to incorporate her recipes and techniques into our cooking at home.

Took a midday course with Donatella (one of the proprietors) and had an amazing time. It provided a one-of-a-kind chance to cook (and eat!) Ligurian food. The teaching style was relaxed and friendly. Donatella is very professional and was great at matching the level of instruction to the needs of our group. Highly recommended for foodies!

My wife and I took one of the private lessons in Ligurian cuisine Chef Per Caso offers for foreigners. We had a fantastic time. The class was very hands on, and provided instruction preparing various Genovese dishes including focaccia (several styles), pesto, and pastries. Donatella, the proprietor, was incredibly friendly and helpful, and also provided a lot of good advice for negotiating the food scene in Genoa.
