Nice Cathedral church with a nice view. Not as magnificent as other Catholic churches but certainly matching the vibe of Trieste. Comfortably next to the museum too.

We visited the Cattedrale di San Giusto Martire in Trieste whilst on a one day stop in the city on a Monday in June. Arriving on a cruise ship, we had opted to take a guided walk of the city and the cathedral was on the route.
The cathedral is built on the site of the Roman garrison buildings high up on a hill overlooking Trieste and the immediate area has many Roman ruins and indeed the cathedral itself has reused Roman stones in its construction. Not obvious from its uniform exterior until you enter is that the building has been extended several times in its history and one of the obvious ‘tell tales’ are windows in ‘internal’ walls and different styles of supporting columns.
Near the altar area is a lovely Roman mosaic which was dates from much earlier and has been subsequently incorporated into the cathedral. Visitors may walk on the mosaic and if you have a feeling for history you may wonder just whose footsteps you are walking in.
The interior of the cathedral is quite dim but we managed to get photos without using a flash. It is our custom when visiting religious houses to light and candle in exchange for a donation and this facility was available here. Public toilets are situated close by charging 50 cents per person.
Worth a visit if you are in Trieste, the climb to the top of the hill may put people off especially in the heat, but our walking guide took the party via an elevator in a nearby multi story car park so this may be worth knowing if you intend visiting.

Stunning cathedral honoring the saint of Trieste, St Giusto. It is close to the city center, but visit in the not-so-hot hours of the day as it is a steep hike up.

This church is old and consists of two that have been combined. It has a number of very nice byzantine mosaics of the lord and his associates.

This is a very old cathedral, inside there are some incredible mosaics depicting Christians the 12 apostles. For one euro they can be lit up, well worth it. There is also a separate bell tower which we didn't go in but looked interesting

I would say if you are in Trieste then you should visit this church. It is a nice exercise to walk up but surely its worth it. The church is very nice and from the belltoweryou can see the whole city

A long, hilly walk from the center of town, but worth a visit. Especially liked the cathedral. We didn’t visit the Winkelmann antiquities museum, but think that would be interesting next time.

worth visiting the queen of the Adriatic for that. Setting aside the Venetian emblem and the lack of excellent locations along the Adriatic when compared to other Italian seaside locations the hilltop edifice is extrordinary, varied complex, rich and enigmatic. If walking from the Piazza Unita it can be strenuous on a hot summer slightly humid afternoon but it is mosaic rich (as a Ravenna outcrop), structurally dramatic, vario-vestibular and has a vicinity of loci mirabili.
