The historical centre of Modena is stunning, and fortunately quite compact. A brisk walk will take you from the train station to Piazza Grande in ten minutes. Piazza Roma with the Palazzo Ducale, and Piazza Grande with the cathedral, Ghirlandina bell tower and the town hall are magnificent, but then are many other attractions dotted about as well.

I had few hours to spend on a late afternoon/evening. It is really a great area for a walk, full of traditional places to stop for a drink or dinner. There are plenty hidden gems, keep your camera ready, you will need it

Modena’s historic center is beautiful. The colored houses, hundreds of restaurants, and small alleys are a must see. Visit the town square as well and see the beautiful duomo and architecture.

a small area in the centre not to be missed....lovely porticos....numerous points of interest....dont miss the covered market....gorgeous food on offer....

While the Duomo is the big ticket item for tourists in Modena, you should also have a wander in the streets round about. There are many lovely buildings and in particular quite superb arcades. But watch out for the student's on their bikes when crossing the road - a dangerous lot!

We strolled through the old town prior to going to dinner. It is very picturesque with its old architecture. People are friendly too.

The Emilia Romagna region has many beautiful mediaeval cities and towns with fascinating old city districts, but none as interesting and charismatic as Modena. There are so many landmarks: the beautiful Duomo, its Bell Tower (Ghirlandina), the cathedral’s Museo Lapidario, many lovely piazzas, and the wonderful Mercato Albinelli. A day of your visit to the region would be well spent here.

The historic centre of Modena is a real gem. Italy is absolutely full of great cities with fantastic history and architecture but certainly is you are in Parma or Bologna I recommend you to stop in this fantastic city for 1 day visit

Centro Storico of Modena is untouched by ages... Magnificent Duomo and the Bell Tower, Ghirlandina, Palazzo Ducale, majestic palazzos, exquisite boutiques, vibrant market... I think the beauty of Modena is so underrated... not too many tourists, which was great for us of course... I wish we could stay longer.
