A wonderful museum for a few of reasons:
1) it has a wide collection of artworks in the permanent exhibit that touch on many centuries building towards modern times. The collection is especially notable for its focus on Naples itself. You could see the evolution of the city through the eyes of the artists who painted her.
2) it houses short-term exhibits so that it attracts multiple visits (when we were there, they had a Warhol exhibit, for example).
3) it houses the last known work by Caravaggio. I have said in other reviews, and I'm sure in future ones, as well, that Caravaggio is one of my wife's favorite artists.
Tickets are easy to purchase at the door, and the visitors are not as many as some of the other sites, so you don't necessarily need to purchase ahead of time unless a major exhibit in on.
Definitely worth a visit on a visit to Naples. The first-floor coffee shop is also a nice place to sit and rest before venturing out again into the busy city.

this is a mess.
according to the staff member, the collection moved from the original location (a sumptuous palazzo) to a nondescript steel-and-glass structure a few hundred feet away - but both the Google and Trip Adv listings still have the old address, and it has a street sign saying "Zevallos Gallerie" - highjly misleading and frustrating.
Deprived of the orginal setting, the collection is both meager and unimpressive. The gem of the collection - a Caravaggio - has been on loan to a London gallery for a long time.
Don't.

This palazzo is permanently closed. The artwork, including Caravaggio’s last work The Martrydom of Saint Ursula , has been moved 300 meters up the street to the Gallerie d”Italia in the Banco di Napoli.

My wife and I had been meticulously planning a trip to Naples, Southern Italy, and Rome for a couple of years, but each trip was delayed due to Covid-19 restrictions. We were finally able to go to Italy this year and planned on seeing every single Caravaggio in Naples and Rome. Although we’d enjoyed Naples three times before, we’d never been to the Gallerie di Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano. Aside from Caravaggio’s Martyrdom of Saint Ursula, we’d read that the Gallerie had many other pieces of great art, so we were really looking forward to going there.
We planned on going directly to Gallerie di Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano as the very first thing on our itinerary after checking in to our hotel in Naples. We did that, but the Gallerie was nowhere to be found, and we ended up walking in circles trying to find it at the address on the website. We didn’t see any signs about the Gallerie, and no one in the area could tell us anything about it. We went back the next day and looked again; still no luck. It wasn’t until we got home a few weeks later that we discovered on the Gallerie’s website it was remodeling and was moving a short distance away. It was scheduled to reopen almost exactly one month after we were there! If there had been a notice on the Gallerie’s website before our trip about its closure for remodeling, we missed it.
We understand and appreciate that the Gallerie took advantage of the absence of tourists due to Covid-19 to move and remodel. Good for it. From the pictures of the new location on the website, it certainly looks like the remodeling may have been an improvement, but after planning our trip for a couple of years, that just doesn’t lessen our disappointment. The Martyrdom of Saint Ursula is the only Caravaggio we didn’t see in Naples and Rome. SIGH.

Lovely Baroque palace located in center on one of the most populated street of Naples 🇮🇹. Would not spend more then 1-2 hours here as the museum is not that big but for sure it can be a nice art break from walking and exploring the city. My favorite is also the most popular The Martyrdom of Saint Ursula by Caravaggio.

The museum that opened 8 days ago moved nearby and changed names from Gallerie di Palazzo Zevallos Stigliano to Galleria d'italia. Prices went up from 5 to 7 euros but the rate is still affordable for huge collections and exhibitions.
Because it just opened there is still a lack of signs/direction and there are no sitting areas besides some uncomfortable wooden stools.

Went here to see Caravaggio’s Martyrdom of Saint Ursula and Artemisia Gentileschi’s Samson and Delilah. Easy in and out, observing Covid protocols. One of only three Caravaggio’s in Naples.

When I was a kid, I'd walk past this palazzo without a second glance. It was nondescript and nothing ever happened here. I was pleasantly surprised to see that there was an exhibition of artworks, including Caravaggio's 'Martyrdom of St. Ursula', which is considered one of his finest. As Caravaggio is one of my favourite artists I had to go. My pleasure at seeing this work was enhanced when I saw the other works, particularly those of the Neapolitan School and this Palazzo seemed the ideal place to house them. The exhibition of terracotta heads of scugnizzi was also worth close examination. There were also works by Rubens, Van Dyck and Gentileschi. It was a real pleasure to see some paintings by the founder of the Neapolitan School, Anthony Sminck van Pitloo (what a great name!). Adding to the delight was the rehearsal for a concert of operatic arias being held in the atrium. The acoustics were really good and the singing was exceptional. Al in all, a most rewarding morning.

Simply beautiful - building, art, etc. Great history and so glad the bank didn't let this go by the wayside.

There were six small rooms open during my visit. Three had mostly unremarkable religious art, one had some dusty old landscapes, one had a handful of charming fin de siecle paintings, and one had a single painting. Yes, the Caravaggio. Probably the least remarkable Caravaggio I've ever seen. I would have walked right past it if I didn't know. Certainly not worth going out of your way for. Anyhow, they play recorded classical music throughout, and the place has a heavy perfume smell throughout. It's part of the 'exhibition' and sounds like a nice idea, but I found it quite distracting. So it's up to you if it's worth 5 euro. I felt like a sucker though.
