Also known as Santa Maria di Monteoliveto, but not sure why they called it this name....

Anyway, this church was built in 1411 and restored after World War II. It is a repository of Renaissance art. Entering, past the tomb (1627) of Domenico Fontana (who completed the dome of St Peter’s in Rome after Michelangelo’s death), the
richness of the interior unfolds.

Best regards,

I am a bit of a sculptor too and seeing the mastery and skill level of Mazzoni's group of statues left me breathless: beautiful, realistic, lively in their facial expressions and body movements. All the Compianto is a true masterpiece.

We were told this would be the best example of florentine reinassance in Naples, and we actually found some similarities with other tuscan churches we had previously visited during our last trip to Siena. MUST visit if you're into the reinassance period.

Hidden but in plain sight; it is actually in a central location (right off of Toledo station), but for some odd reason it's not very well known. It's magnificent (the sacristy above all other things) and well worth the visit.

We knew nothing about the church but were introduced to it by a couple of young stuff members that were promoting it outside. The church seems pretty forgettable until you reach the last chapel, a beauty all covered in frescoes by Giorgio Vasari,  the illustrious tuscan artist from 1500s. Worth the visit.

This Church is something wonderful.
It might look boring from the outside but there's definetly a small treasure to be found inside, aside from the monumental statues, Vasari's Chapel is the most breathtaking experience of them all.
