Tours MUST be in a language you understand. If, like me, you are English AVOID AVOID AVOID!
That’s how many times I showed up for the English tour, was told to wait and wait and wasted a half day waiting. Their guide won’t guide or isn’t allowed to guide small groups. She came, she scowled, she departed. It’s “no tour for YOU” barked the tour fascist.

Visiting from London with my girlfriend, was recommended this by group of friends. Great knowledgable staff very good service, atmosphere good quality/ price. Highly recommend anyone visiting.

I walked into this church simply to check out the interior and artwork and discovered there is a subterranean museum. It was a really cool experience! There are no crowds or long lines and I got a private tour. It was really informative and the guide was great! It’s really shocking when you first see the long, long staircase going so far down below the earth just beneath the church. There’s a great exhibition of actual artifacts found in the tunnels and in the back of the museum exhibit hall there’s a wall from a Roman house and some Greek stone foundations beneath the Roman stones. You also have a virtual tour and a 10 minute film you can watch about the discovery of the cave/tunnels. If you bring your ticket from the San Severo museum or a coupon from the MANN you can get a discounted admission. You can see everything in about 40 minutes.

We stumbled upon the Lapis Museum while visiting Naples. What a FIND! We were so lucky to get FEDERICO as a guide. The BEST guide we ever had. So passionate and knowledgeable and made our tour so interesting . Definitely the highlight of our trip and not to be missed especially with the wonderful Federico. UNMISSABLE!

Sadly we did not get to enter the Lapis Museum as there was entry to an art exhibition on one side and the Lapis Museum on the other. Not being fluent in Italian, we didn't realise that the tickets we were buying were not for the Museum and the ticket seller was not about to tell us otherwise. Make sure when you enter the basilica you turn to the right for the Lapis Museum.

We stumbled across the museum after entering the old city from Dante square off the
Via Toledo. Look for a church, then the Lapis Museum sign next door. It cost 10 Euro
per person but they gave us the senior discount so we paid 7 Euro each. Just my wife
and I were there but it didn't matter. They assigned us a guide, Roberto, who spoke
passable English and he led us below into once was a stone mine that goes 90 meters
under ground. He stayed with us and gave us basically a private tour. The first levels are a museum, just under the level of the current church which was a Roman house. Then the stairs take you down to the level of the Roman aqueducts, which the miners cut into which flooded the mine. In WWII, the citizens used it as an air raid shelter, then filled it rubble after the war. They have a virtual reality set that shows you this. For the price, one of the most interesting things you can do in Naples.

Not sure why this site isn’t more visited. Or at least why there aren’t more reviews. My tour guide, Nicola, was fantastic. The tour and underground exhibitions were a welcome respite from the streets of Naples. Highly recommended.
