Market was very busy. You can buy everything what you want. Fresh fruits and seafoods, electronics things, shoes, jeans and other clothes. We bought lot of fruit about 2-3kg and we payed only 9€.

We came through this old gate on a Sunday and the market was very vibrant selling all sorts. There are some good deals to be got if you have a look through the pikes of clothes on sale.

Another impressive entrance to the old Naples. Once again you cannot get good photos. Firstly because of all the market stalls around it and secondly this is an area where you have to watch your belongings
Under the arch of the gate you can buy fresh fruit and vegetables but the market has just about everything available. It also seems to creep deeper and deeper into the city.
Not very special but something to experience

We nearly missed Porta Nolana Mercado, it would have been a tragedy as it’s a wonderful place. Heaven for chefs and foodies.

This is the place to see various octopus species, live clam species, live sea snails, live whelks etc.. the fish on display is also fantastic and super fresh.

A word of warning hang onto your belongings and develop eyes in the back of your head. Hang onto your phone/ camera for dear life and hide your handbag.

Go early, we arrived just after 9am midweek and the market was in full swing. It’s not very big and does not take that long to explore.

There is other bits as well cheese, fruit and veg and some random housekeeping products and clothing.

The market is on the street, so when it rains it will be messy.

Don’t miss out!

The archway and its small towers are almost missable amongst the busy marketplace. They look very impressive.

The market is very busy with lots of stalls and shops selling a variety of things.

With the bustle of the market, you almost don't notice the historic setting of Porta Nolana and its towers. In addition to the food market, there is a chaotic second hand clothes market, sprawling out in all directions. Worth seeing for the colour, vitality and setting, but doesn't seem like the safest place in town.

Piazza Nolana built 15th century has two towers called, Torre della Speranza, (Tower of Hope) and Torre della Fede, (Tower of Faith). The façade facing Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi, has a bas-relief depicting King Ferrante I on horseback, while the reverse side has a bust of St Gaetano.

Difficult to miss this gate when wandering down Corso Giuseppe Garibaldi, from Piazza Garibaldi to Porta Nolana station, as the gate is very large and there are heaps of people around, due to the very vibrant market.

Great, dangerous and lively place: the street market at Porta Nolana is famous for fish and seafood of the morning catch, seasonal fruit and vegetables and pickpockets. Beware! If you have an opportunity to cook, try clams (vongole and other local varieties), shrimps and tuna steaks; you can also buy a whole fish and ask the fishmonger to clean it. Preserved olives, dried tomatoes and salted cracknels (taralli) make an excellent present. The old porch and semi-ruined mansions around make the scene.
