Historical walls
Sep 2020 • Sendiri
These are Arabic walls that were built during the Middle Ages during the Arabic dominion of Spain. The wall used to be 2 kilometers long. Now, they have built a square and a nice fountain around. The wall is just at the left side of the Almudena cathedral.

An interesting find
Mei 2019
Just close to the Cathedral of Almudena, immediately opposite the doors of its Crypt, are these ruins of the city walls of old.
Not much to see, but if you are in the vicinity or you are interested in ancient walls, you can budget a 5 to 10 minutes stop over here.

Arab Walls also known as Muslim Walls of Madrid are a great starting point to explore the rich history of this most beautiful of city's.
During the Muslim domination of the Iberian Peninsula in the 9th century on a promontory adjacent to the Manzanares River the walls were constructed, if you walk down to Parque Emir Mohamed I you have great views of these ancient walls which are arguably the oldest structures in Madrid ,the walls were declared an Artistic Historic Monument in 1954 ,Parque Emir Mohamed I and the area around the walls are in all probability the structures that later developed into the magnificent and beautiful city of Madrid and the park is named in honour of Muhammad I of Córboda who is widely regarded as the founder of Madrid.
Arab Walls are easy to locate along Cuesta De La Vega and are most definitely well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to Madrid.

Old history
Okt 2018
The Arab Wall is a 9th century construction and marks the area which was possibly a central point back in those days. At that time the Muslims were occupying the whole of the Iberian peninsula and they actually did some good things, including some amazing architecture which we see today in various cities. Unfortunately, however, this particular spot does not have much to show today! There are only a few stones around and not a great deal more. At the time of our visit there we were not able to see very much and it was rather difficult to tell how much there was. It is a protected area and it's worth a quick look if you happen to be passing by. It's behind the beautiful Cathedral de Santa Maria Almudena, which is at Plaza de la Armeria, where the Royal Palace is too!

If you pass by

Good to read the history but not much to see and you couldn't get in. All was fences and even inside all was paved.

Ruins of Arab Walls
Jul 2019
This area s one of the oldest parts of the city and the walls were built during the time of the Moorish occupation. Not much to see really as it's just ruins and all the information is in Spanish. Another reviewer says that the information were almost completely faded, which is totally UNTRUE. It's perfectly legible and I could see the writings clearly, albeit incomprehensible only because it was in Spanish.

The walls are opposite the Almudena Cathedral and even then, it's too much trouble.

Summarises the attitude of the Spanish towards Muslims and Arabs
Jun 2019 • Pasangan
First thing I noticed is that it doesn't look like something of significance. If I hadn't spotted it on google maps I would have never known that I was walking past it.
You'd never know that it was the nucleus of the city and in fact the oldest remains in the city. All in all I thought it summed up the attitude of the Spanish towards Muslims and Arabs. Tolerated because it is there with minimal effort to accommodate them.

The signs explaining the history were almost completely faded. In any case they were all in Spanish anyway with no other languages, not even English or Italian. Oh and there were also at least two stickers for the "ultrasdella" on the signs.

Easily overlooked

While the wall itself is just a wall, it does reveal an important part of Madrid's past that is often forgotten - namely that the city of Madrid was founded by the Moors. If you walk south past the Palacio Real, you will chance upon the wall and a small park in front of it. We were almost going the skip the park, but thankfully we walked the extra bit to enter the park. It turned out to be a beautiful herb garden with thoughtfully written descriptions in Spanish and English of the different plants and their historical uses. If at all interested in gardening or herbal medicine, this is a must-see stop for visitors to Madrid.

Old city wall - easy walk for kids and elderly
Apr 2019 • Keluarga
We visited the moorish wall here by the cathedral next to the royal palace. Some of the best views in the city are along this walkway best being inside the royal palace. The wall is simple and not super exciting however there was many cats walking around which my kids enjoyed seeing more then the wall. I enjoyed the history seeing an old city wall and reading about it here at the site.

Ask your guide
Mar 2019
It’s a bit of a random corner but nice if your guide brings it to life a bit. Otherwise pretty random and essentially a bit of old wall with a new fountain that doesn’t have any water it in!

The relief nap of the old city is interesting to orientate yourself.
