Windsor is a lovely town, history, beauty, wonderful walks. A lot to see and do and I haven't visited for about 10 years. I went with my very pretty 25 year old daughter and sadly, felt uncomfortable. There were so, many men of indian/african/middle Eastern nationality either standing or walking around in groups and staring it was intimidating and quite a few men begging which was very sad to see as they were English. I will not shop there again, maybe visit the wonderful parks.

Not to be confused with the Savill Garden as the whole Great Windsor Park is divided in different sections so we can give it proper respect that it deserves.
Initially for the pleasures of the royals and later for us all, the Grade I listed Valley Gardens were built on low lands near Virginia Water Lake. They form little valleys due to its uneven terrain hence the name probably. The plants were brought here from mostly commonwealth countries to represent the scale of Great British Empire. The variety of the plants here is fantastic and the diversity exotic. Depending on the season, you'll see bluebells, daffodils, tulips, rose, magnolias, camellias, azaleas and so much more, There are also centuries old oak trees that were planted by various royals themselves that make this whole landscape a complete botanical garden/forest package.
Nearby Virginia Water Lake was Queen Victoria's favourite and she probably sat at the same spot where us commoners put our picnic baskets now. You can expect the security to the highest standard here as the park ranger was late Duke of Edinburgh Prince Philip himself.

Scenic and quiet area north of the totem pole. Lots of woods and paths to explore. Nice areas for azaleas and rhododendrons in season.

This part of the Windsor Great Park looked exceptionally attractive due to the good weather we had during our visit, but it also is in part a result of the many years of care & maintenance that this area has received. A worthwhile place to take the time out to visit.

The Crown estate grounds are extensive, but Valley Gardens is one of our favourite parts. The Azaleas are stunning in Spring.

Beautiful Gardens, part of Windsor Great Park & a loverly walk around the Virginia lake, the girls enjoyed all the Rhododendrons in all their colour. Our walk included a nice stop at the Bailiwick pub for lunch ( see separate review ) before heading back towards the car & stopping off at Saville Gardens for more none alcoholic refreshments. Great day out on a loverly sunny day

This is a beautiful place to visit around the beginning of May when the rhodos and azaleas are out. It's a stunning view around the punchbowl area. They're doing some work on the site which will take about 2 years to complete, replanting huge swathes of plants. This means you can no longer walk between the plants, instead there are viewpoints along the top and then you walk around the outside and can view it again from the bottom. Still stunning though!
It's a reasonable walk from the Savill Garden car park, or you can pay the extortionate rate at the Valley Garden car park!!

These gardens are enjoyable at any time of year but especially in the spring with all the blossom and flowering shrubs. The hidden daffodil valley is quite a sight to see.

We haven't yet gone this year but plan on this coming weekend of the weather permits. this past weekend was spent doing a bluebell walk. I have seen azaleas in people's yards in bloom now, and it hasn't been that long so I hope they are still going on - I would expect so.
