The Pavilions Güell - Los Pabellones de la Finca Güell , is a complex of buildings in the neighborhood of Pedralbes, Barcelona, by architect Antoni Gaudí, built between 1884 and 1887. Beautiful gardens and stables. Gaudí was also partially responsible for the design this gardens, where he built two fountains. The “Fountain of Hercules” still stands. And the gate - this is it. An iron gate surmounted by a dragon. This creature with its mouth open showing his sharp teeth . Whenever you open the door the dragon will raise his leg and show his fearsome claws. Wonderful friendly and informative staff.

As with all Gaudi work, it is definitely worth a visit if you use the hop on/off bus tour that runs by it. Not really worth a special trip otherwise as there is not much to see as this is private property and what you can see is limited. Certainly the dragon is a work of art!

It is always interesting seeing works by great masters and this is just as good, perhaps not as magnificent as Gaudi's famous Sagrada Familia and other houses in Barcelona, but it's worth a look. You don't have to pay entry fees as long as you keep your distance and stay outside!

The Hop on Hop off bus has a stop here. You might want to by pass this place and see the other two Gaudi houses on their tour. By tickets online for the other Gaudi attractions to save time in long lines
Unless you are a die hard Gaudi follower I would not spend more than 5 minutes here and I would not pay the expensive entree fee. This house is on private property which makes it more expensive to go in. The only real thing of interest I found was the dragon on the iron gate and you DO NOT Need to go in to see that you can see it from the street.
If you do go inside you will find a small house with an adjoining barn. The grounds and garden are not well kept.

I note that many people who have gone there say there is not much to see except the dragon gate. It is an early Gaudi work for the Guell estate (mainly a stable), therefore I do not except something spectacular. But as I am interested in checking out Gaudi's early works (Torre Bellesguard, Colonia Guell, Palau Guell, etc) this time, I decided to go. If you don't want to pay the entrance fee, you can still view the dragon gate and other features of the structure from the outside.
The staff at the ticket office was very enthusiastic in explaining the history and use of the place, some details of the design, and also showed me photos of some other Gaudi's works (including those not in Barcelona). I asked him a number of questions which he glady answered.
I understand that the place is under the University of Barcelona and is open for public viewing as part of the modernista heritage of Barcelona. For the price of a cup of coffee (I paid €2.5 to enter), if I could contribute in a very small way to help maintain this piece of heritage, I would gladly do that.

This place is far off the beaten path, we ended up here to buy the Ruta del Modernismo guidebook. The English version has beautiful photos, maps, and descriptions of modernist buildings in Barcelona and other places in Catalonia. You get a book of discount coupons for visiting various places, you can make up the price of the book with a few visits. As others have noted this particular Gaudi work is modest, with the highlights visible from outside the gate. The admission charge is 4 euros, but if you buy the guidebook is only 2 euros. The inside is OK but not as compelling as the exterior decoration, which you can enjoy without paying.

The acces door is magnificent, but if you're not an architecture student, you have to save the entry fee. There are a lot better thing to see from Gaudí

This parc is out of this world. Just thinking the hours of work invested on it, Gaudi's creativity and imagination makes my mind explode. So worth visiting and spending your time observing the view. It has an awesome overview of Barcelona.

We've been to Barcelona several times, so we decided to visit what we've never visited before, so we went to the Palau real (park with a small castle not open to the public, but free), and then we headed to the finca which is just next to it.
The guy at the entrance told us that half of the buildings were close (only the stables were open). He gave us an explanation, showed pictures, he did a great job. But the inside is just not worth it. Don't waste your money (I don't say time as you finish the visit in less than 5 minutes) and go to the monastery which is in the same street a few minutes away from it, it cost the same and it's worth it.

The current Royal Palace in Barcelona at one time was the country estate for Eustebi Guell. While Gaudi did not design the structure, Guell did hire him to design the entrance gate and horse stables.
This shows Gaudi at his beginning in a mudejar style design very similar to Casa Vicens. The site has a number of tile designs in exposed brick. Also you see several parabolic arches that Gaudi loved so much. However the highlight is the dragon gate which also shows a Gaudi feature with wrought iron designs. This one is perhaps his best and it was one of his first. I love it because he put such detail into a minor structure for the overall property. Once you see it, you understand why Guell latched on the architect from some of his greatest work.
Also notice the design in Guell's initials and the flower pot on top with a iron plant and flowers. Simply amazing. Great to see the beginning.
Finally while I would have paid the fee to see the interior, I visited just after sunrise before opening and really got to see without paying. You can really visit at anytime to see it.

I have read that it is closed due to rehabilitation works, is that true? Is it actually worth visiting Pavellons inside?

I went in February and the staff (a gentleman) manning the ticket counter was very friendly and helpful. We chatted for about 10 minutes and he gave me some interesting details/information about this place and some other lesser known modernista structures/buildings in Barcelona and other places. That's before I decided to get a ticket to go inside. While there's not much to see inside (don't compare it with the other more well known Gaudi works), I paid just €2.5 for a ticket which was about the price of a coffee, and I hoped it helped in a very small way the university to maintain the place (I saw signs on site that the university is planning to improve it). If you don't want to pay to get inside, you could still take photos of the structures and the dragon gate from the outside, and even talk to the staff manning the ticket counter.
You have to check on the internet to see if the place is closed for improvement/renovation.

What are the hours of operation for this attraction? We are staying nearby at the Hilton and I thought I could easily walk either early morning or late afternoon/evening.

I only went to view the gate and that is accessible 24/7. I did not enter the park as reviews I read indicated it was somewhat of an anticlimax. I did enjoy the public Park adjoining this gate. Enjoy your Barcelona stay.
