Makes one realise that all of history is literally under one's feet.
Very well and interestingly presented.

Relatively small museum dedicated to archaeological discoveries in Cordoba. Remains of the Roman city can be seen in the basement. In general, you can skip it. Free for citizens of the European Union.

I'm surprised there aren't many more visitors to this museum. It's only a five minute walk from the Mezquita, the exhibits are well-documented in both Spanish and English, and the exhibits are quite interesting. The highlight is a Roman theater underneath the museum, which you can walk through (on a slightly raised platform) -- there's also a short video that describes what the theater would have looked like in Roman times. The staff is also very diligent about COVID, for example requiring everyone to sanitize their hands before entering the museum.

The museum is divided into three levels: The exhibition begins on the second floor, where the focus is on a historical overview of the general history of Cordoba. The area on the first floor with the entrance shows exhibits from private life related to, among other things, daily life, religion and leisure. In the basement lie the ruins of the Roman theater on which the museum is built.
We enjoyed the exhibition a lot. Most of the explanatory panels are available in Spanish and English. We read through all the English panels, looked at the exhibits and spent two hours in the museum doing so - the museum is rather smaller. By the way, the entrance is free for all EU citizens.
The communication at the reception was not easy, because the employee seemed to speak little English and I did not understand her despite B1 in Spanish due to the mask and the insufficiently adapted language. This was a little unfortunate, because it made us feel insecure right at the beginning of the visit. However, we then managed to find our way around.

Located in a beautiful square in the historic center of Cordoba, it is an interesting museum to learn about the past of the city
Although it is not very large, it has an extensive collection of objects from prehistoric, Roman, Visigothic and Arab times, which makes it worth a quiet and detailed visit.
Special mention should be made of the great variety of busts belonging to the Roman imperial dynasties, such as one of Druso, another of Livia and another of Alexander Severus among others, which faithfully reflect the physiognomy of the portrayed
In the lower part of the museum there are still excavations of what was a Roman theater and that can be visited through some walkways
The museum has many explanatory panels to read carefully
And of course, after the visit, relax with a coffee or ice cream in the beautiful square surrounded by churches and old houses.

I found this a pleasant, well-done, clean, modern and easy to navigate museum. It's on the smaller side, which I appreciate because I don't end up spending all day in a museum.

The museum focuses on the region around Cordoba and has many ancient artifacts on display. Many placards and description cards are in English (in addition to Spanish of course). The Staff was very courteous, and even had a couple personnel offer a guided tour (free), which I declined but much appreciated the offer.

Probably the coolest thing about this museum is that it is built directly on top of an old Roman Amphitheater, which you are able to see and explore. It's very well done.

Entry fee is nominal. Bathrooms available inside.

After spending a day at the incredible archeological museum in Madrid, we were prepared to be underwhelmed by this small(er) museum. Not the case! It is an exceptionally well curated and tasty museum focused on the immediate region, which also is the source of the many digs (and artifacts) in the Madrid. But what makes this a must-see is that the building is constructed over the original Roman amphitheater, much of it excavated and viewable (with cool 3D videos) in the basement. And, as always seemed the case, it was free for Seniors!

Do NOT skip this wonderful museum! It may be a smaller collection (for now), but they have an outstanding group of artifacts. Displays are in English and Spanish, taking you through an excellent history of the area and an overview of the various cultures that have controlled Cordoba. The lower floor contains some interesting Roman Theater ruins. The museum is in the process of renovating a Renaissance Palace, which will allow them to drastically expand their exhibit area- but for now, it’s a wonderful Intro to the history of the area that doesn’t overwhelm. (Let me say again, this is a high quality collection!) And as others have noted, I too tried the cafe in the courtyard and was very pleased. Excellent service, good food, and a lovely resting spot.

You don't see the beautiful historic house it was previously in unless you notice it through the window when you leave. If you have to give something a miss in Cordoba take this off your list.
