Very plain and dour
Sep 2019
Lots of German churches are very stark. This is one of them. We did not stay around too long. We were not allowed access to the cloisters as there was a service imminent. It is a place of worship to the monastic Sisters and we respected that. The cafe does very nice cakes and teas and soups. Good views from the land surrounding the place. Not well signposted when walking up to the place.

The reliquary of St Hildegard is here.
Sep 2017 • Pasangan
This church, now the Parish church of Eibingen, is the former monastery church of the Benedictine monastery, founded by St. Hildegard in 1165 now massively altered of course. In 1998 an extensive interior renovation took place, during which the altar area was redesigned, giving Hildegard pride of place. There are bones of two other persons in glass cases on the wall of this now very modern looking church. The gilded reliquary is lovely, though smaller than I expected. It resembles a building, with the cardinal virtues allegorically depicted on its doors: justice, fortitude, prudence and temperance. On its front and back four saints are portrayed, amongst them St Benedict. There are several steps up to the church and also a long ramp with plenty of parking in front.

There are photos and a lot of information on the rebuilding of the church, (destroyed late 1944) and further work on the tower. Also information on the history of the church.

Great ambience. Really beautiful old church.

Can fit this in as part of a day visiting the Benedictine Abbey. Lot of walking involved but it is beautiful area with vineyards everywhere. Try to hang around to go in outside of a time when a cruise group arrive as they are huge groups and noisy and can maybe ruin the atmosphere for you.

Beautiful local church

This is a gorgeous, small, local church near the cloister, which is equally lovely. You can drive easily or even hike to it. Hildegard is intrinsic to this area and we loved visiting several sites dedicated to her.

A tranquil place make you contemplate in peace

North of Drosselgasse about 20 minutes walking stood the Catholic Parish Church of St. Hildegard in memory of Saint Hildegard, a German writer, composer, Benedictine abbess in 12th century who mainly lived her life in Rüdesheim and Bingen. This church represents the solemnness and dignifiedness of Germany’s historical religious architecture by its typical structure and quiet environment. What impressed me most was a statue of St.Hildegard beside the wall in the yard. It has a very simple design but the face under the hood delivers a very resolute and sad air. I stood in front of the statue and looked her for quite a time. It was toward evening and all around me was loneness and secludedness. I didn't go into the church for it was quite late, but still a precious experience.

This makes for an interesting stop in Rudesheim. Try to learn a little about Hildegard before you go and it will make the whole experience mean more.

Lots of visitors
Mei 2011 • Pasangan
Located in the hamlet Eibingen. Lots of visitors by bus for the pilgrimage. We waited untill these left the compound. Today the parish and pilgrimage church St. Hildegard stands on the foundations of the original convent established by Hildegard from Bingen in 1165, reconstructed after a fire between 1932 and 1935 cosidering older stylistic elements. In the church the remains of Hildegard from Bingen are kept in the Hildegardis shrine. Annually on the 17th.September, the day of her death, hundreds of pilgrims pour into Eibingen to take part in the relic procession in honour of the saint.
