Planned to visit a friend from the US who was in Germany for a few weeks and Kassel was the easiest place to meet. What a wonderful surprise that Documenta was happening, and also that we discovered treasures like this park and it's sculptures. We used the Izi app to choose a walking tour and it was delightful. The weather cooperated as well. I never imagined Kassel to be such a nice place but I'd definitely go back!

If you visit Staatspark Karksaue give yourself a few hours to explore - unfortunately when we visited and took advantage of free parking on the east side it was raining, which did not allow us to fully explore the park as we headed across the park to the city centre seeking shelter and somewhere to eat! We did notice when we returned to the car via the Orangerie, there were good looking eating places on the river much nearer our car - school boy error!
