I was in Munich with family for a week and luckily I saw the Ingo Maurer showroom while viewing Trip Advisor recommended sites. Took a taxi going to the showroom and is located a few meters from the road behind a restaurant. As soon as you walk inside the alley you will notice the red birds on the tree and balcony then you know you there. The showroom is fabulous and I wish I had the money to buy one of his works. Sadly it was our last day in our vacation and our money level was on the low side already. I definitely will go back here and hope to see new designs and probably buy something.

For years I have enjoyed Ingo Maurer lighting designs. On a trip to Munich last summer I was in Schwabing and I wanted to see where the offices of this ingenious designer are situated in the city. At Kaiserstrasse 47 I first notice a 15 foot high water column - stunning. To my surprise I also discovered a huge showroom attached to their Headquarters opened in 2009. Over 7000 sq. ft. of the entire collection of Ingo Maurer lamps and super cool one-off's (as they call them) models of project work and several prototypes. That was the icing on the cake for me. The staff was extremely helpful and friendly and for over 2 hours wandered through this beautiful space and its wonderful world of the magic of light. I look forward to see it again when I make it back to Munich. If you are interested in Design, especially design with light, and beautiful handmade German quality – You MUST NOT miss this showroom. If you go to Munchner Freiheit UBahn (5 minutes walk from the Showroom) this also has great interior and lighting design by Ingo Maurer. Peter G
