Hi just to clarify, i am a 16 yo boy who is an average or above average skier. Do the VB before it is gone, the veiws are amazing and the offpist is great. get a guide, our guide took us to a beutiful powerd are where we made our own tracks. I belive that mostly everyone can complete the VB. The only downsides with the VB in my opinion was the hike at the end. It really killed my legs hahha. All in alldo the vb before it is gone, just relax and enjoy the experience.

If you are a reasonable level of skier, staying locally and conditions permit.... then this is a must do!
But to do you MUST hire a guide, have a backpack which can carry your skis and hire crampons for the traverse.
Tip:- take a bag or some thick cloth to wrap your crampons before you pop them into your rucksack.
Be prepared to climb a LOT of steps at the end in order to get the train back to town.

If you ski this, you need to hire a guide and be an expert skier in very good physical condition. Its a physically demanding adventure.

One of the most beautiful valley you'll see in your life ! I've climbed a few summits in this area (Petite Aiguille Verte, Pointes Lachenal, Mont Blanc du Tacul, Dôme du Goûter, Mont Blanc) and trust me each time you go up there it is like a dream !

Every year the glacier recedes. Travel up on the cog/rack railway. Use the multi-day holiday pass for best value. Overlooking the glacier is a good cafe, but they don't have milk! Also a gondola system down to an ice cave in the glacier. The glacier is covered in rock scree and so doesn't look very attractive. Start a walk along the contours to the Aiguille du Midi, although it is easier to walk from there back to the Glacier. You need to be fit. The air is thin and takes its toll on your breathing.

We have skied the Vallee Blanche many times - and are astounded by the advice on websites that "you dont need a guide" or "if you can ski a red run - you can ski the vallee blanche". Both these comments are so dangerous and inaccurate! Yes - there are long traverses that any competent skier will find easy - but the weather & snow conditions can change so quickly - and crevaces and snow bridges in poor light conditions can be impossible to see - until it is too late. It is a wonderful excursion - but invest in safety and take a mountain guide.

This almost 15 km long run from the top of L'Aiguille du Midi, throughout the glacier, down to the bottom of the CHX valley is, on a sunny day, certainly one of the best in the whole Alpes. At least 1/3-1/4 is in powder & through glacier crevasses & good physical condition AND "savoir faire" is needed to survive. Otherwise there are a lot of expensive guides to take your money & take you through it. Expect long lift queues up on sunny days after snow fall, & on the 200m long traverse walk up top. (The pic attached is 500m down from the top)

Ultimate To Do Before it melts away.. 23 Kilometers down this Ice Age off piste valley. The view is amazing through the glaciated mountain terrain. The tough bit is reaching the ski off point down a 5 foot wide roped steep ridge arret . Hang on hold or strap on your skis n poles crampons help (hireable) They do recommend a guide Up to you ? Then ski between the cracks, seracs & crevasses, If you drop into one the helicopter will drag you out . Take a picnic and savour the longest run in europe The views are fabulous. When the snow runs out 600 metal steps to test your fitness a cool beer is your reward & the old rack railway takes you back to Chamonix..My first trip no lift or steps you scrambled up the mountain & skied through the trees home .. A Worlds Best ski Be safe it IS dangerous.

It was my first time ever visiting such a place. Great view and good spot for taking some 360 degree pictures.
We took a train from Chamonix ( Chemin de Fer de Montenvers) up to Mer de Glace which cost us Eur 32.50 for adults. While going up,you will benefit from amazing view of Chamonix town city. Souvenir shop is a little bit expensive but worth it.

This February the conditions for the Valee Blanche were perfect.
Under the care of the excellent Mike from the local guides we were roped down the steep ridge tonstart then the fun began
An exhilarating long and incredibly scenic descent followed.
I ride a snowboard and there are a few flats ( bring telescopic poles ) and on one run you have to hold one edge for about a Km. ( need to be fairly fit)
Don’t even think of going without a guide. You will die.with the expert the risk is low.
Descent of a lifetime.a must do for all winter sports enthusiasts

How difficult ist Valley Blanche? Me and My children (13,15) are not good skiers but red runs are no problem.

Bonjour! 2 questions for the community:
First, is it possible to ski the 23k off piste route of Vallee Blanche starting later in the day ~11am? The reason we are considering possibility of a late start is that we arrive in Geneva at 7am and are thinking this would be an amazing way to start our ski holiday in the alps (If not possible, any recommendations on ski options for a half day in Chamonix would be appreciated).
Second, is it mandatory to have a guide to ski the common / easy way down the Vallee Blanche, or possible to follow a map or GPS tracks?
Cheers!
Matt

Better to wait until your body has acclimated to the altitude of the Alps. Also a guide is required

I guess I will have to hit up tons of ungroomed trails this winter before I leave. What month did you ski the Valle de Blanche? I'm planning on end of January.

End of Jan - it’s all down to the weather - skied back into the village where as last year was out the same time and could not get onto the ridge due to wind. And not enough snow to ski back to Chamonix.

We are trying to plan a 3 day ski trip to the Chamonix area over Christmas, a family of 4 adults, and wondered if you had any suggestions as to where to stay, which lift to be closest to, and which ski areas are better for middle range skiers/snowboarder?
Thank you so much. It is rather overwhelming!

Les Houches is not in the central Chamonix area - the free bus service will get you to the central town of Chamonix itself and to the other ski areas - but if I had the choice I'd stay in Chamonix itself. Yes it will be more expensive but you will find all you need in walking distance (restaurants, rental and other shops, lift co. etc) - the nearest ski areas would the Brevete and Flegere (5 mins on bus) and there is plenty of mid-level skiing there ... but if you can do a red run you can also book a slot on the huge Vallee Blanche lift itself - but do take a guide and allow most of a day!

Dear Marriott Bournemouth
We have stayed in your hotel before as a family with two adults and three children and had two connecting rooms in the main hotel at the end of a corridor on the first floor on the RHS facing reception - one with a king size bed and sea view, the other with twin beds and a rollaway bed for the third child. I have tried to book these two connecting rooms again for a break on 6th Dec 2014, but the Marriott booking service in the US was useless since they could not find BOURNEMOUTH on the map, let alone the two rooms at your hotel that I wanted to reserve. Please can you tell me the room numbers so I can book these two rooms.
Thanks
