Must see for anyone interested in the history of modern architecture.
Sep 2017 • Pasangan
The Maison La Roche is a must see for anyone interested in the history of modern architecture and urban design. However, for the general visitor it may be of limited interest. It is one of the first two houses designed by Le Corbusier. They were a great contrast with all previous domestic architecture and were a ground breaking major influence on the development of modern architecture. As houses they still appear attractive and would with appropriate furnishing make pleasant homes. However, most people would probably prefer to live in the adjoining traditional houses which can be seen from Maison La Roche. The architecture of Le Corbusier inspired other examples of attractive small scale domestic architecture. However, when scaled up for large scale developments such as social housing projects the results, were often urban nightmares.

A Treat for Architecture Buffs
Mar 2017 • Teman
For the past few years, I've wanted to stop at this museum during one of my Paris visits because of the house's importance in the history of modern architecture in France. But the structure was either under restoration or my schedule couldn't accommodate it. When UNESCO added the building to its list of internationally significant architectural sites in 2016, however, I decided it was time to go there when next in Paris and placed Maison La Roche near the top of my "to do" list. Built by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret between 1923 and 1925, the house was designed for Raoul La Roche, a collector of avant-garde art. The residence combines personal quarters with space for a private art gallery in the 16th arrondissement's Square du Docteur Blanche. Its historical architectural importance rests on the design input by Le Corbusier, a pioneer of modern architecture. The house displays five elements the architect used for the first time in adopting this new approach, including the use of a flat roof instead of a sloping one. I visited the house with a friend in early afternoon on a Saturday. Two small groups of visitors, who appeared to be architecture students, were the only others there. An 8E admission is charged and the museum supplies required protective foot coverings, which we returned at the end of the visit. An excellent 8-page brochure in English is provided that gives extremely helpful information about the home's history and what we saw during the self-guided tour. I considered the three-level house to be well maintained and an excellent example of how to use public and private space as well as natural light. I liked the long ramp between the gallery and library that tied two floors together rather than separating them by a stairway. The roof garden offers a relaxation area on the terribly cramped building lot. But visiting here would likely not be worthwhile for those unfamiliar with Le Corbusier and the beginning of modern architecture. For those who would like to learn about this type of history, a guided tour here may be of interest. Currently, they are offered in English on Tuesday and Friday at 2 p.m. and limited to 10 people, so reservations are required. Google Maison La Roche for more details. Though I walked here from Musee Marmottan Monet, Maison La Roche is easily accessible by metro (Jasmin stop, line 9; Michel-Ange Auteuil stop, line 9 or 10).

Disappointing visit
Jun 2016 • Sendiri
I found this building attractive from the outside, but inside it did not live up to expectations. I made my own way around, and there was a pre-booked French tour going on at the same time. Frankly, it was disappointing and not very good value with no information provided for the entry fee.

Dear Susan, We are sincerely sorry that you could not enjoy our Museum. A brochure in English is given to each visitor and weekly visits in English are held every Tuesday and Friday at 2 pm. We hope that in a future trip in France you can reconnect with one of the works of Le Corbusier. Kind Regards, Fondation Le Corbusier

Le Corbusier avant garde ideas of the 1920´s

Visiting this house gives a vision on the révolution introduced by Le Corbusier in housing in the early 20's. The villa Savoye in Poissy ( west Paris ) complement the architect understanding. The most impressive urbanisme global achievement in Europe is the Firminy Vert ensemble near Saint-Etienne.

I am a amateur architect and must say this house didn't interest me too much. It's just in too bad a state and too much out of date.

....delicious light!!! Visiting maison là Roche, it's a unique experience made of extraordinary sensation generated by ipermodern architecture...Built in 1923/1925 perfectly manufactered, it's one of Le Corbusier's Masterpieces that everyone must see when in Paris. If u wanna compare with Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame or similar as i read in many post here... It's not for u.. Don't go!!

Early modernist house

If you are interested in early 20th century architecture and the work of LecCorbusier then you should go to see this house. It's not entertaining, it's just an interesting genuine architectural treasure.

Waste of time for anybody but the most hardcore fans

Hard to find and perhaps the worst experience I've had in 42 years of travel. Phone and web information sketchy and inaccurate. Staff was rude and unhelpful. There is no documentation or display info anywhere in the building. It was allegedly restored, and looks as if it was plastered and painted by a group of elementary school children. The entire house can be seen in five minutes. The pictured roof garden is ALWAYS closed (the only info I could get from the attendant). None of the house looks as well as their photos. Yes, I do like Corbusier and have been to other houses. To have this referred to as a museum is an untruth. The two page brochure was far more interesting than the exhibit.

Less is More, and that's the currrent state of affairs...

Difficult to find the building, then wasn't sure if it was open (had to ask a builder outside, then ring a bell). Charged the full amount (8 euro) with not a lot to see. However, that's probably the point. And the building is beautifully built with the preciseness you'd expect. Worth a visit, and I'd go back if in Paris to see it competed inside. I can only give it 3 stars though on the building itself.

Maison La Roche is definitely worth a visit if you are at all interested in C20 architecture. Under restoration at the moment, unfortunately the gallery and library were not open, but the entrance fee was accordingly reduced. A very informative leaflet. We hope to return on a future visit to Paris when the works are completed.
