A varied site with an established Forrest, clay pits and reservoir towards the top of the site .
The forest is full of wildlife, the clay pits is at the bottom of a big pit which creates a micro climate for the various pond life in the clay pits. A scenic view of cliffs and rocks in the floor of the pit. The reservoir has lots of bird life on it and is accessible to all .

Great little place for bird spotting. Good for families with small children as some paths aren't too long but a couple of them do go slightly off-site. We started on the Sculpture Trail but somehow meandered onto the Geo Trail. Paths in generally good condition but would recommend wearing sturdy shoes. We generally get ourselves lost but found this quite navigable.
Small car park which wasn't busy when we went. Couldn't see anywhere selling refreshments but there us a pub just off the car park.

Our first visit to this Black Country gem: we were on the hunt for bluebells, which were splendid & plentiful. We also saw many interesting exhibits on the Sculpture trail. There was much we didn't have time to explore, so we will be back. The only negative is the lack of toilet & cafe facilities, but overall, a place to be recommended.

Hello Clive,
The nature reserve has surfaced paths and some of which are suitable for commuting by bike. However there are kissing gates at entrances and the site is not suitable for mountain biking etc.
Thank you

Does the postcode take you to the car park?
Ditulis pada 23 Agustus 2017
I visited today but wasnt very satisfied at all, i just wanted to make sure i headed to the right place. It took me 1 hour and 15 minutes.
I parked on a small carpark near to new houses being built. Headed through a gate and cane near to the pit and the lake, and some boats behind a metal fence.
Although everywhere i walked seemed to take me to either a housing estate or a main road... wasnt at all impressed, saw no sculpures or even a relatively nice place to walk. Any info people can give me id appreciate as i was very interested in this place until i visited.
Was i in the wrong part?
Should i have gone further?
Have the statues been removed?
Etc
Thanks
Simon

You where definitely in the wrong part, they are currently building the new houses, which can be seen through the line of trees only very close by, at the top of the car park you used, there's a little gate entrance with a totem pole, go through there and straight is a lovely trail with iron and wooden statues, it's beautiful once you're in there, you can't hear anything but birdsong.

Hi Sarah,
Saltwells is well served by the bus network. As Saltwells Nature Reserve is so large which bus is best for you depends on not only where you are coming from but also which parts of the nature reserve you want to explore.
Unfortunately Trip Advisor will not allow me to put in the web address here which holds the local bus network map. However if you go to Network West Midlands website then follow the following links: Bus, Maps, Bus Maps, Sandwell and Dudley and then finally you can download the Brierley Hill and Merry Hill map as a pdf
Saltwells Nature Reserve's car park is not far at all from the Saltwells stop just east of Merry Hill.
Merry Hill itself is a large bus interchange with many routes coming from further afield, such as Birmingham. The reserve is just a short walk from there across the busy Pedmore Road.
The reserve itself stretches up to the Cinder Bank bus stop in the north and is also cut through by the route stopping at Lodge Farm.
I hope this helps!
Alan
