A true highlight of places to visit in Norfolk. I have no experience of tanks & my knowledge of warfare is minimal so I wouldn’t say I was a target (haha) audience for the Norfolk Tank Museum but I happily tagged along with my husband who’s an ex Squaddie. I’m quite a chatty person, so I loved the chance to interact & spend an hour hearing the first hand accounts (long tails lol) of the inner workings from Alex. He delivered his in depth knowledge of all the tanks in a listener friendly way, I can imagine children will be enthralled (dressing up in their uniform donations has to be a must, if I’d done that as a kid I’d remember it forever). And best of all, he lets you sit in the real tanks (& wasn’t a bit precious about how you did it). I didn’t really think it would be my thing but it’s fascinating to imagine how it was to drive/win a battle in. The displays of war memorabilia are interesting too, also some (careful) hands on exhibits make the experience truly interactive.
I’ve visited a few museums recently (so my review has some credence) and this was by far my favourite. I’m hoping to visit again soon & give the ‘drive a tank’ experience a good go. This is a museum run by genuine enthusiasts, it hasn’t got the latest 3D Tanky talking to you & thankfully there aren’t any flashing gizmos from the 21st century, the café reflects the honesty of the museum & you will like it. For any nostalgic Squaddies out there, the exhibits here will give your heart a warm feeling. Please do go.

What an awesome hidden gem, not a massive museum but some brilliant equipment to look at. Brilliant for anyone interested in armour & has some great exhibitions too, we has our own personnel guide who was very knowledgeable on everything there. Only criticism is shop could do with selling some items with museum logo on ie fridge magnets, keyring & mugs

I have been to this museum now on several occasions, once I even drove a Saladin and a BV all terrain vehicle. Each year armour fest gets better as more vehicles are restored, this year a Chieftain MBT and a Stug were tearing around too. As this was the biggest event they have had there was no room for parking so a tractor and trailer took you the half mile journey up the road, it was a shame that we did not know this before as we took chairs, large picnic, photographic equipment etc and had to leave most of this in the car, also one tractor was not enough as we had to wait 60min each way for the tractor so we did miss some events. 6 portable loos were laid on for the crowds. One chip van that was very cheap and an outside BBQ were the only food options, again 1 hour to get good priced fish and chips. A small trader area was also very good. The whole event itself was very good, tanks, displays, car crush and car tug o war. The ticket price was well worth it. It was a shame the tractor transport system was not explained before, this did spoil it for a lot of people. As they did know by the amount of tickets sold they should of informed people of the car parking system so people could allow the extra time lost waiting for the tractor. We had a two hour drive and all 4 of us needed the toilet, then having to wait an hour for the tractor was ridiculous, toilets should have been provided in the car park. Hopefully next year will have better parking and better informed amenities.

We went to the Armourfest on Sunday 15 August. We were utterly disappointed. To start with we arrived at 9.45 and waited 45 minutes for a tractor and trailer to take us to the venue, which was about 2 miles away, so not a walkable distance. Had we known this we would not have booked! Very poorly organised, they knew numbers attending from the online sales. There were more models on display than actual vehicles & if it had not been for other organisations displaying their vehicles it would have been a despicable waste of money.
It was meant to be a re-enactment ....there was no German e-enactment, all there was were a StuG and a tank driving round the tank pit with a few pathetic pyrotechnics, there were no German re-enactors!!! We sat at the tank pit for 2 hours and an hour of that was watching BV rides!!! Not what we paid for!!. We left at 1.30 very disappointed. Not worth the money!! Compared to other military museums this was very amateurish, even when they don't have a re-enactment day. The toilet & refreshment facilities were an utter disaster, queues everywhere. It was not as though they didn't know how many would attend as they had sold out on Friday 13th August!!! Would certainly not recommend to anyone.

Plenty of entertainment, things to look at and things to do. Car crushing, seeing restored vehicles running around, living history groups, people sharing their collections and talking about them, stalls, archery, swing band + more.
Please note I visited during 'Armourfest' which happens once a year and I got to attend for free. Normal price for the museum is £8.00 (£4.00 per child/one child free), £12.00 for adults during Armourfest 2021 (£7.00 for under 16s, £1.00 for under 5s).
Definitely worth it to visit during Armourfest, people who are not highly passionate about what's usually being displayed may walk away disappointed during any other visit as their collection is not as grand as other museums.
The museum has tried to make it as accessible as possible for everyone however the vast majority of the museum is outside and involves a lot of walking. There are disabled spaces just outside the 'hanger' but the car park for those without badges is a trek. They were transporting people to and from the carpark but I believe that is just for Armourfest.
Throughout the day there are loud and unexpected noises from pyrotechnics and large vehicles manoeuvring.
There is a small tea room with indoor and outdoor seating that sells light bites, snacks and drinks. For the day there was also a chip van, ice cream van and bbq. Queues and waits were long, so I recommend bringing at least a snack or to just take advantage of the space available for a picnic.
It was absolutely wonderful to see history come alive during Armourfest 2021 and I hope I get the opportunity to visit again in future.

The tanks there are amazing and are in a very well kept condition. The Mark 4 WW1 tank is fantastic and you can get inside it! The cafe has very nice food and you should try the ‘Banjos’ there. Very helpful and friendly staff and would recommend for any tank lover like me. Good gift shop with toys for kids and real bullet casing from a Lewis gun!

Such a gem. So much to see - a large collection of memorabilia. Volunteering staff were helpful & enthusiastic to show & tell about the exhibits & stories relating to some too. The tanks were such a hit with Deborah being the favourite.

Such a lovely place, just came back from here. We went with two boys, aged 9 & 10 as a birthday treat. They had the best time, everyone was so knowledgeable, lovely and friendly. Very COVID safe. We will most certainly be back!

Are you open 1st April and are there tank rides available everyday?

Hi
Sorry, we don’t open Easter Sunday. We open Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday from April 3rd. We have rides each day we are open, weather-permitting.
Hi, we were thinking of going to your Easter event with our boy he is only 2 years 8 months old and was wondering if there was any restrictions on rideing in the vehicles. And if there was any activities which younger children would enjoy please?
Norma_haye

Hi,
The Easter Egg Hunt is aimed at younger children and the craft activities will probably be suitable too, there is plenty of colouring available as well as making Easter bonnets. The vehicle ride is safe for all ages, but it is bumpy and loud so it’s really up to you if you think it would be suitable for your particular child. There is an intercom and emergency stop for you to pull if needed. You’ll be able to watch a ride first in any case and then make a decision. The rides are extra to the museum entry, £3 each, all other activities are included. Hope to see you Saturday :)
