For those who are interested in history, archaeology, architecture, knowing more about what Henry VIII got up to....
The church is a short walk outside the city walls, very easy to find and sits in a graveyard that is truly fascinating to explore. The exterior contains the story of the church, from Saxon times onwards. Do find time to wander around outside as the plasterwork of the interior prevents you seeing the many different periods of construction. The main feature remains sealed and hidden for Thomas More's daughter brought her father's head here for burial, following his execution for refusing to go along with Henry in his plans to divorce his first queen so that he could marry Anne Boleyn. You won't see anything so gruesome but you can sit and admire the beautiful stained glass, depicting Thomas in his full regalia. Don't forget, though, that he had his victims, too, ruthlessly persecuting those who he regarded as heretics. Different, far more brutal times.....

If you know your history then you know how much Thomas Moore (author of Utopia) hacked off Henry VIII and Anne Boleyn, and this is where his head ended up after they had had it separated from his body. Worth a visit for this little bit of history alone, but also a lovely old church.

Sir Thomas More's head lies in a vault beneath the Roper Chapel within this church. The Church was founded by Archbishop Lanfranc at the end of the 11th century. St.Dunstan's is situated at the entrance to the city on London Road. There is so much to see here that I visited twice to take it all in! Well worth at least one visit.

This church is very old and is the final rising place of Sir Thomas More's head, brought back from London by Anne Roper. Apparently, it was rescued from a spike off London Bridge, following his execution.
Of course, it is not on view, but the story is well known in the Canterbury area. Opposite, just a little way towards the Westgate towers is the only remaining wall of Roper house, once owned by Anne and her husband.

Friendly people. Church service is family friendly. Understanding with people who are unwell and kind to one another after the service can go into the hall and have coffe and tea and biscuits and give just a donation. I have not gone to church before but I was made welcome and by the end of the service I felt blessed

Thomas Moore was not executed in the cathedral - that was a different Thomas. Moore was executed on Tower Hill in London.

I used to work at Roper House RNID home across the road from this church many years ago and was able to see it opposite. The church is over one thousand years old, it is famous for its lnks with the Thomas Moore family, I believe he was beheaded in the cathedral and his head is buried in the family vault in this church. His daughter Margaret Roper lived in the house opposite, hence the name Roper House. She is also buried in St Dunstan's. Canterbury is an exceedingly historical town/ city but not overwhelming in sizeso it reminds me of toy town!

I visited the church because it supposedly houses the head of the English writer and martyr, Sir Thomas More. It is a quiet and peaceful place with lovely stained glass.

This church is just around the corner from my house and it is very beautiful to look at from the outside and the inside.
The place is very nice and peaceful.
The bus stop is right out the church to get into town as well as many other places outside of Canterbury.
