The director was very kind and explained everything. Was surprised to discover this little gem. The video display was very helpful as well as all the physical displays.

This museum is full of historical items belonging to citizens who live in Civita. They were brought to the area when their ancestors escaped from Albania during the time of the Moors. This is mainly still an Arbresh community and the people are wonderful!

This area has a fair number of residents of Albanian descent, and the museum is dedicated to the history of the Albanians there and their traditions.

Coming to Calabria at the Pope's invitation after fighting the Turks in Albania, they have become thoroughly Italian without loosing their Albanian culture. This museum give a detailed glimpse of that culture both in the past and how it is celebrated today. Be sure to have a tour by the museum's director to understand all the details of Albresh history and culture.

Not only is Civita, Calabria, Italy, a hidden gem that very few people visit, it offers fine restaurants and very comfortable B & Bs.
This museum has an excellent display of Albanian artifacts from the early times when they left their home counntry in the 1400's after it was invaded by the Ottoman Turks.
It is also a great place to engage local people in conversation about life in the 21st century. Several speak English very well. Ken

A look at a culture I knew nothing about. Clothing was magnificent. Pictures of buildings and chimneys was very unusual. Worth your time.

If you're like me and had no idea that ethnic Albanians settled in this part of Italy, then this museum is for you. This excellent small museum has a good video and a nice display of traditional costumes. This museum is easy to find and is well worth a visit.

Civita was settled by a large number of Albanians fleeing their homeland. This small museum offers an interesting insight to their culture. Seems to keep irregular hours so keep checking back or ask around town.

The museum preserves the memory of this beautiful piece of Calabria. Located in the main square, it is a must for anyone visiting Civita. A heartfelt thank you to the Professor who welcomed us into the museum: with the moving stories he told us, he certainly enriched me and my family.
