This beach is in a cove about 20 minutes north of Cabo. We took an Uber. The beach has a bathroom and an outside shower to rinse off, near the parking lot. Bring shoes, as the beach is very large/long and is mostly a rock/pebble beach. Near and in the water is soft sand rather than rocks. It seems this is a place for boats from Cabo to stop – as when we first arrived, 4-5 boats were anchored offshore. There are also a couple of hotels in the area with seats on the beach for their guests. A few of us went snorkeling near the rocks on the side of the cove and it was fantastic. In addition to a lot of fish, they saw a manta ray and a Morey eel. We left in the evening – and I was wondering how long we would have to wait for an Uber ride back to Cabo. To my surprise an Uber was there in 1 minute.

Beach itself was amazing, we just happen to go on a windy day so hard to swim in and back out but overall great!

Love this place. I feel safer here. We had a lot of awesome pictures and videos. Lots of fishes 🐟 😉 😀. Also, I like the life guard, lol. My family and I went to multiple beaches, and this one I like when it comes to safety and feeling secure.

The beach is truly impressive! Surf is variable and can be very calm or significant, but a flag system keeps swimmers informed about safety levels at any given time. The sand, while rough, can be navigated more comfortably with the use of neoprene socks or water shoes. Unfortunately, the ambiance is affected by ongoing construction in the vicinity, and it appears that in the near future, the once secluded beach will become more populated. Trinket vendors are already here.
The best snorkeling experience can be found on the far-right side near the rocks. There, we encountered a diverse array of marine life: well-fed Surgeonfish, Angel Fish schooling together, Moorish Idol, various damselfishes including the striking Giant Damselfish, Cortez rainbow wrasse, Blue-barred Parrotfish, Porkfish, Pompano, Pacific Trumpetfish, Guineafowl Puffer, and even a Moray Eel. We went twice in one week and saw something new each time. Corrals are not impressive, visible bleaching.
During our visit, the high tide early in the morning left minimal dry sand close to the snorkeling area. To secure our belongings, we placed them on the rocks surrounding the beach. As the tide receded after 10 am, we installed our umbrella about 10 feet away from the demarcation line set by the adjacent hotel. However, a hotel employee bulled us (and others) to a more central part of the beach, farther away from the prime snorkeling spot, supposedly for our safety but most likely to ensure that our umbrellas did not obstruct the view for their guests lounging on the property. There were no risks for location. Later, we were told by the locals that while the property behaves possessively toward the public beach, they have no ownership rights.
Accessing this beautiful beach from Cabo San Lucas was convenient. We hopped onto the purple public bus near the Walmart parking lot, and the fare was just 30 pesos. The buses, while of varying quality, all have air conditioning, making for a comfortable ride. Sometimes, you might encounter a live musical performance along the way. Heading back to town was just as straightforward. We crossed the highway and waited on the side for about 15 minutes until we spotted the bus, then signaled for it to stop. On the bus, we seemed to be the only ones on vacation, all other passengers commuted to or from work, many wearing their uniforms.

Amazing public beach! So clean! Amazing snorkeling! We loved hanging out at Santa Maria. We are so glad we found this beach, rather than paying for a snorkeling tour adventure, since they come to this cove anyways! Loved this beach!

DO NOT come if you want to relax or if you have sensitive feet.
There are several new hotel developments. Google maps access is not updated yet and takes you to a private hotel construction. We got there at 10 a.m. and all you can here is super loud construction noises with the exception of lunch time when the workers left. We couldn't even hear the waves crashing. I'm a migraine sufferer and the constant loud sound triggered a bad one.
The sand feels like gravel. After walking for 10 minutes we had to stay under the umbrella. Thankfully one of our family members had water shoes and I was able to take the kids in the water for a little bit. I've never been in a beach where the sand was so coarse.
There are restrooms and showers, but they're super stinky and half of the showers are broken.
Other than that it has a beautiful view, the water is clear, the beach is clean, there are no vendors and there are rocks nearby for snorkeling. If there weren't construction going on I would give this beach 4 or 5 stars. It may be better in 3 years when the construction is completed.
If you still want to give it a try...Bring your water shoes, umbrella, food, tons of drinking water and a good beach blanket or towel. You will need flippers if you want to go snorkeling cause the rocks are far from the beach entrance.

We got to the beach by sailing boat. It is beautiful view and good for snorkeling with a lot different and colorful fishes. The down part is about jellyfish in the water and no signs warning swimmers about it. I got stung really bad while snorkeling.

Great access to beach but the sand was really coarse. Not many people there so that was nice. Lots of boats for excursions were there the day we were so that was a little annoying as the space is small so the boats took up most of the view.

Nice beach. Came for several hours to enjoy the beauty. We’re surprised that there were no public bathrooms (would be hard to make a full day there with young children) also restaurants are only for private villa customers and won’t take beach people.

Was worth the half day trip, especially if you like snorkelling. My wife preferred Chileno beach, because it was bigger.
We were able to get shade at both locations, without paying for lounge chairs with umbrellas. Go in the morning, and walk to the far right to the rock wall. You will be shaded there, but there is limited space.
We took Uber there, and the public bus back. When taking the bus, just go to the highway and flag down the purple/yellow bus. They are fast! Faster than Uber.

At Santa Maria Beach, was the snorkeling good? Was the coral reef still there or totally damaged by years of tourist? Did you see whales on the trip to or from? Did you also try Chelino Beach for snorkeling?

We are going to Cabo in March with our 5 and 8 year old. I don’t think we will rent a car, any suggestions for traveling and adventure with kids this age? Is it safe?

Walking to this beach is too far from most hotels - take a taxi or Urber - or if you wish the city bus.
Free parking if you drive - families welcome

We're coming to Cabo on a cruise in 2 weeks I've been there before but I want to do something different I keep reading about good snorkeling spots in Santa Maria and Juliano how's the best way to get there and do both of these locations rent snorkeling equipment there??

Agreed forget urber here it’s more like a gypsy cab system - take a regular cab - u may be able to arrange with the driver to return and pick U up. No gear, towels etc. it’s a lovely little local spot- lifeguard on duty. U might be able to rent umbrella too. Bathrooms new and big for changing clothes
The next exit past also has a beach equally nice and equipped the same
I’ve read the walkway at Santa Maria Beach is 5-10 minutes and over a mile long! Can anyone tell me if Santa Maria is significantly longer than Chileno?? I have issues that prevent my walking more than 10-15 minutes at a time. Thank you.

No estoy segura, pero creo que no. No ví ninguna mascota. Pero en Playa El Médano sí permiten.
