It's a beautiful and relaxing walk through a postcard pretty village, boasting the shortest river in all of France, in fact, from the very beginning at the source till the end at the sea it's a mere 1,1 km!

One of the most pleasant walk along the stream/small river. Every bridge every house every water mill was just beautiful and one needs discipline to stop taking pictures but enjoy the place.
Water was clear, some healthy looking fish swimming in it and watercress was gently flowing in the water - creating an amazing picture.
And if one loves flowers, this walk does not disappoint at all - full of colourful flowers of all shape and sizes, they all looked rather effortlessly beautiful.
We visited here on a sunny day. Not too busy. Gentle sun. One of the most memorable days of this trip.

Amazing little transparent river. You can walk along in the village and enjoy the nice flowers and properties.
I understand that off peak season is a must to visit this awesome Norman village.

When coming back from the Normandy to Germany we did not have this place on our original planned route. But a colleague of mine suggested stopping here as he was visiting two years before and described this village as the most beautiful, picturesque one he had ever seen. It was his insider tip so we put it on the route and stopped here …

… well we tried to stop here but no way. As we started in Cabourg in the morning we came here around noon. The village was cramped with thousands of cars and millions of pedestrians. Albeit beautiful this place is certainly not an insider tip as we assumed and were told. Its a major tourist spot and even driving through the whole village to the beach and up to the camper grounds for the big caravans there was not a single legal spot where I could have parked my car. So we decided to let go and skipped our visit here. It would not have been real fun with all those tourists running around here.

And yes, I realize that we also had been just tourists adding to the cramped village.

So I would rather recommend you coming here way before or after main season. We visited in July on a Saturday. Not smart either but all of those tourist housing kick you out on Saturdays.

My colleague was quite shocked when I told him afterwards that there had been literally more people per square meter than in Mount Saint Michel or Carcassonne - which is hard to believe but true for the main season at week ends. But obviously places as big as Mont Saint Michel are perfectly organized to a degree that you don't notice how many people are wandering around there. In Veules Les Roses you cannot miss this feeling of cramped spaces.

Now I'm not sure if its unfair to rate them just 2 stars. But as I now understand they cultivate their image as picturesque must-see hotspot pretty much so they should also make sure to have some kind of parking space outside of the village to keep the cars out of the way and even offer some more parking lots than the few dozens that are inside the village itself. But like I said: Even if we wanted to stay for an hour or so there was no chance to make this happen due to the lack of parking lots - even if we would have accepted some not so legal place to park. Those were also occupied already.

This is one of my favourite places to visit in France. We had only visited as a couple before but this time we had our two year old. It's a lovely place with quaint waterfalls and streams and very picturesque. The beach area is great for children with a safe beach, paddling pool with slides, sand pit and playground. There are toilets on the beach that are clean and free. The village has a few eateries and the ones we visited were child friendly. Parking can be a nightmare at times however. Make sure you visit this place as you will not be disappointed.

Okay, Veules-Les-Roses is considered to be one of the top-ten charming villages in France. As you've probably read elsewhere, it is the shortest river in France and the water is super-clear allowing you to check out the fish. Put on your walking shoes and enjoy a lovely and meandering stroll as you follow the river through the town. The walk can be substantial and there are some stairs so be aware if mobility is an issue.

We parked at, what I believe, is the west side of town at Parking Des Sources (see my pic). The parking was free. The path for the river walk is very close to Parking Des Sources. There is a sign with a map, which you can snap a picture of. There are also signs along the path which tell some local history, like at the water wheels, for example. The trail does branch off in several directions, and we managed to get a little turned around. For me, however, that has always been one of the fun parts of traveling, just wondering where you'll end up!

We were there on a Sunday, which may have increased the crowds slightly, but it was also June 3rd before the big summer crowds appeared. The roads are narrow so try to get there early (like most anywhere in France) or on an off day if you are going in the summer. On Sunday, there were many closures in the town, though there was still enough to get some Normandy cider, cheese, water and local baguettes to snack on! In fact, if you visit the Church, which I believe you should, there was a bakery and a convenience store open right across the street.

Veules-Les-Roses is all the way North so it's probably not on many people's radar. If you can make it there, however, I think it's well worth it. We did it as part of a day trip from Rouen. Enjoy!

Said to be one of the most beautiful villages in France, Veules is certainly quaint and attractive. The Veules river is the shortest in France - 1100 metres from the source to the sea - and is crystal clear, with plenty of brown trout to be seen. A walk along the river (there are plenty of signs and maps around) takes you past some delightful vistas. When we visited on a Monday and Tuesday out of season, the village was quiet and there was plenty of free parking available. (It's probably wise to avoid high season, because the village is not really large enough to accommodate crowds.) However, early in the week and out of season, restauration is limited, so finding somewhere to eat can be a challenge!

Veules-les-Roses is one of the most charming villages in France. The walk along the Veules river (which is only 1100 meters long) is a must when visiting Normandy. And the beach, with its white cliffs is very beautiful too.
