At the side of a main road this curiosity is worth a visit, many architectural elements from different ages were repeatedly reassembled to form a Roman-looking temple, which indeed includes various elements of Roman era.

In the eighth century after Christ, Lombard era craftsmen built a Christian church with the forms of the classical temple.
They used authentic Roman material and added identical material made by them.
The result is a church with frescoes unique in the world.

We have been coming in Umbria for a few years and I can definitely say this is the first time we don't have the guts to recommend a place we have been to.

The reason is simple: there are sooooo many great places around that this one is not really worth the time and the effort. You can find heaps of great temples around and great guides that will explain the history and the architecture behind it. Here you would spend time to get here to see a small - nice, don't take me wrong, but still many others around - temple with no guide (10 minutes max to finish the whole thing) for 3 euros.

Chances are that is worth it only if you are a local and you have seen it all......

A little Roman temple that Caligula frequented because of the nearby spring waters , there is not a lot to see at the moment as they are renovating the inside of the temple . It should be lovely when it is all finished though. Still worth the trip.

This pretty and tiny roman temple turned in paleochristian chapel in Via Flaminia, sample of longobard art in Umbria, deserves visit, along with the Fontane del Clitunno, few meters away, Both, tempietto and fontane, preserve an atmosphere of peace and tranquility that you will appreciate for a relaxing stopover.

At the Fonti del Clitumno they told us it was an easy one kilometre walk to the tempietto so off we went. It was further than 1 kn, the signs were poor and we had to ask a policeman, and when we got there the place looked closed. The people before us (in a car) just looked through the fence and left. We discovered that it was open but there was a fairly steep entrance fee for this UNESCO site. It is a tiny building so we opted not to pay the entry and had to walk all the way back to the Fonti to collect the car.

The Tempietto di San Salvatore, located in Campello sul Clitunno and therefore also called "Tempietto del Clitunno", is a small temple built in the Lombard era, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2011.
The small temple consists of a pronai of five columns, decorated at the top with Corinthian capitals.
The church is divided into an upper and a lower one. Inside the upper church, you can see frescoes dating back to the 8th century and splendid decorations, typical of Lombard art.
The crypt is nothing more than two rooms with another access, distinct from each other but suggestive.
Entrance is paid and the visit is recommended.

Definitely interesting and worth re-evaluating. But the 4 euro ticket is undoubtedly too expensive given that the temple can be visited in 10 minutes. It's absurd that a pairing of the sources is not possible

The temple is really cute and is absolutely recommended if you are in the area. It is certainly an interesting historical testimony. Unfortunately the entrance price is a bit expensive at 4 euros even if children don't pay. The visit is really short as the monument is small and there is nothing else to see. You stop for 10 or 15 minutes at most to take some photos and read the story.

After passing the sources, and continuing in the direction of Trevi, on the left a sign leads to a parallel road with the main road which leads to a small car park. The ticket costs 4 euros, perhaps a little oversized for a quick visit.
