This villiage is stunning. You find yourself marvelling at the lovely lake, river, park area at the bottom of huge cliffs with houses built into them, a church and a castle near the top. Take your camera!

Part of our drive from France to Malaga involved a stop off here. brilliant how people have made homes for themselves in these limestone cliffs. If you get the chance pay to go through the open tunnels from one side of the cliff to the other and see, no, be impressed, by what you see. Fabulous. They will even provide a free drink!

It is worth it to go there and enjoy the wonderful views of the village at one side, and the river path on the other.

To get to this place you drive quite a way through miles of not very much! Then all of a sudden the road starts to descend & around a bend a canyon with a beautiful colour river & a village of cave houses opens up in front of you. Be prepared to walk up hill if you want to visit the cave houses, & it's hot as there's very little breeze, but it really is interesting & quite stunning. There are water sports (rafting, canyoning) available.

This area is brilliant for stunning views across the valley. Below are examples of cave houses, a stunning riverside walk and places to eat. Above are beautiful birds, including the colourful Bee Eaters, who build nests in the walls of the steep winding gorge. Magnificent photo opportunity.

Firstly, this seems to be the site where reviews for the village of Alcala del Jucar are posted, so here is mine.
The village is set into the rocks and cliffs of the gorge where the river Jucar runs through and by it's nature I should warn anyone with walking difficulty to think long and hard about visiting the village, the castle, which is perched high at the top of the village looks splendid, but it is a long climb up. The village has a small market aimed at the tourist's mainly and there are several restaurants and bars, good views of the river can be seen from the bridge and there is a riverside walk which is flat.
Well worth visiting this village attraction, which we did on a coach tour.

First visited this village in 2014 and again with friends on a coach tour in late 2015, what a lovely village for a day visit or overnight stay. There is a very small market, local and cheap. There are many hostels, hotels and B&B to stay and lots of restaurants, never been ripped off using the menu del dia. There is an old bull ring being rebuilt for historical reasons. The village sits in a huge valley with a river running thru it and a lido at the bottom where you can swim or take boats on to the river, check local booking agents. It is not a place with loads of shops in fact very few tourist shops, this is a place to wonder the streets enjoying the architecture, bridges, waterfalls and the old homes built in to the cliffs looming over the village. Approaching the village you only see flat land and can not imaging what lies a few hundred feet below, it really is worth a visit to wonder around and for sure will revisit and do a overnight stay. Probably best out of season but even then the lido will be brilliant for kids, very safe. Parking is good out of season could be very busy July/August. Plenty of seating and tables in the park areas around the plaza to eat your own picnics etc, plenty of bakers/shops to buy snacks. This really is a lovely village, make the effort and enjoy.
