General grant tree is beautiful and impressive. Plenty of parking, to see the tree is a short hike but there is so much more to explore. We got to walk inside a Sequoia tree...that was a highlight. We spend a few hours here and even though there was many other visitors it never felt crowded. This is a must if visiting Kings Canyon.

This was an amazing stop. We mainly wanted to see the General Grant Tree, but we found several other interesting things to look at on the trail to the tree. There is a place where you can walk through the trunk of a tree that has fallen down. There is another spot that shows a tree that was destroyed from fire. The General Grant Tree is huge and makes a great spot for a family photo. Make sure to walk behind the tree and see a burn scar from a wildfire.

My family and I visited King's Canyon on our recent trip to California. Much of the park was closed because of the very large amounts of snow that the Sierra Nevada Mountains received this winter. However, we were able to see the big trees in King's Canyon. The General Grant Tree Trail was open and we were amazed by the beauty and majesty of the big trees. The General Grant tree is of course the main attraction as it is the second largest tree and living thing on the planet. Only the General Sherman tree in Sequoia National Park is bigger.
On our visit there was still snow on the ground in many places and other places were quite muddy. However, it is an easy hike and it is not just one tree. There are many giant sequoias and we felt minuscule in the presence of these grand trees. It really is a remarkable experience. I do recommend it.

After the fire, I did not think there would be much left. I was wrong!
These trees stand the test of time. To just sit in a grove, to smell and listen to to forest. Great gift.

Along with the General Sherman tree, this is the most popular place to stop in Kings Canyon. The loop is much shorter than the General Sherman loop and possible for people of all fitness levels to undertake.

This short loop trail provides you with a great view of the General Grant Grove. There are a number of massive trees as well as the General Grant Tree. The General Grant Tree is the largest in the world in circumference at the base of the tree. This trail also includes a downed sequoia that you can walk into at root level and exit at the other end of the tree...it gives one a sense of just how massive these trees are from top to bottom.

My husband and I went here while visiting Kings Canyon National Park. It's the largest tree in Kings Canyon. It was very, very crowded and hard to get good photos.

Quick and easy hike to see the widest tree in the world. They have little stations along the way that tell you about the Sequoias.

Absolutely loved walking amongst these giant and magnificent trees.
Well worth doing no matter your ability. My husband has Parkinsons and he managed the whole walk around at his own pace.

Hello, on Sunday 30.4. I plan to visit the General Grant tree. What is the road to get there by car? Do I need car chains or not? Is there snow on the road? what is the condition of the parking lot? Thank you

Hiya, we are planning on visiting General Grant tree in late December. We are traveling from Australia and will be hiring a car to get there from San Francisco. We are not really hikers & we will have my 6 y/o son with us. Can you please give me your thoughts on the drive to the tree from Fresno and also getting to the tree from the car park ...in December?
Thanks in advance!

Unless you plan to do a lot of hiking or just sitting around relaxing along the river you will not need a full day in Kings Canyon.

Hola,
Una pregunta, ¿cuanto tiempo hay entre el aparcamiento y el árbol?
Gracias

First time visiting sequoia national park. I have 3 children. Which tree will be better to visit? The general Sherman or general grant? Leaving tomorrow to sequoia.

Hello, obviously late on a response but I hope you were able to find that the trees were near each other and you were able to see both.
