Very Reasonably Priced For Entry
Okt 2019
Just off St. Marks square ( its not well signposted) the entrance is up the side of the building. It was 4 euro entry and this included entry to the mausoleum of Dionysios Solomus, Greece's national poet who wrote the national anthem, it was a pleasant way to pass an hour

Such a shame
Sep 2019
This museum is supposed to pay homage to important people from the island and mainly to the poet Solomos. His hymn to freedom is awe-inspiring and is the Greek national anthem.
The building is beautiful but the lighting is not good and the explanations very poor. The upper floor leads to a dirty balcony with a rotten flag-pole.
On the day I visited air-con was not working and the museum opened at 10:00 instead of 9:00.
All in all a shame for the island and an insult to the poet.

Really need to be from Zakinthos
Jul 2019
This really should be a lovely museum if you know something of the history, or speak the language. We were told that there was an English translation but the limited explanations did not help. Had we understood the Greek language it may have been interesting and it certainly seemed worthwhile for the people of Zakinthos to keep their history, but I would not put it high on the places to visit for a tourist.

On a trip into Zante town we went here to learn more about the earthquake and to see what was saved ,upstairs was closed when we went so it was just the ground floor which is not large ,mostly things from churches and some photos of the town after the earthquake. Very cheap to get in

Most of exhibits are excellent and saved from the last major earthquake in 1953 which is a miracle in itself

Ok

This is a nice small museum. As you get in you find a lovely scale model of the town. The rest of the museum is just a lot of religious paints, some of them with the explanation plaques too low to read. There is also some scattered pictures of the earthquake but all the information about this is in Greek ( ok, we are in Greece but a museum should have explanations for foreign visitors). Although the museum is small there is not much places to seat down for a break in between paints of St Jean Baptiste ( I think I saw at least 4 paints about this saint that looked exactly the same )

The museum screens all the poetic culture of Zakynthos, bravo to the people that manage it and run it!

Byzantine Museum of Zante town. Just so wrong!
Mei 2017 • Pasangan
This museum is just so wrong on many levels.

4 Euros each entry fee.
Not so much to see.

Ok, what little they have got is interesting, but there is not enough variety to grip you. Big repetition of saint and religious paintings, which were interesting, but why so many. Surely one room dedicated to them would be enough, and the other room dedicated to something else. The Byzantine icons carved in the wood are amazing, the workmanship is of a master level, and it's a privilege to be able to view them, but again why so many.

It's stale and boring.

I appreciate the island lost most of it history during the earthquakes, but they could borrow, Greece has more than enough History to spread around. It's been the done thing for many decades by museums. It's how they keep interest in the museum, fresh by offering new exciting exhibits. It's called an exhibition, and people tend to pay more than the average entry fee to attend.

Most of the exhibits have full Greek descriptions, with very little in English or often just nothing at all. Other languages,German, French etc, forget it, and yet the entire area depends upon the income generated by tourists from all over Europe!

Happy to take your money, allow you to view and admire but then refuse to offer you any kind of understandable description or explanation to what it is you are looking at.
You may then logicically think, ok, so I'll ask a member of staff for a brief explanation, don't bother, your wasting your breath.

Seriously, when they advertised for staff, the ad must of read something like:

Miserable, boring, uninterested people wanted to run Museum.
Must be rude.
Arrogant attitude is essential.
Education not essential.
Xenophobic attitude desirable.

And that's precisely what they got.
Never before have I ever come across so many miserable, uninterested, uneducated, unwelcoming, rude, arrogant people all gathered under one roof.

Avoid it!
Sep 2016 • Pasangan
It's a museum with most of the explanations written in Greek Language and only a few have also English translations. It was almost impossible to understand something. For sure it doesn't worth 4 euro for the entrance!
