This is only meaningful if you understand a little of the history behind it.

Best seen on a bleak day to add some context. It's not Disneyland.

Lovely Monument, but no Signposting, which is disappointing

Felt very privilaged to have visited here, but better sign posting would have been very helpful, hence only 4 out of 5 stars.

A Sad Memorial to the Loss of Independence

A must see for the Welsh, historians and those seeking a tag on the behaviour of nations. A very sad feel to the site and the gruesome well adds to the despair at the loss of a nation's independence. Llewelyn ap Gruffydd's death is a mystery, accidental encounter with English troops, betrayal, etc. The area is well maintained although the well site needs a little TLC. The Snowdonia stone memorial is well chosen and plenty of guides on sale in Builth Wells. A small car park and a railway station nearby.

Death Of A Prince

Stopped at the Llewelyn II memorial on the way down to South Wales. It allegedly marks the spot where the last 'true' Prince of Wales was killed in 1282. There's a small layby for 2 or 3 cars to park right next to the memorial. There are a couple of information boards around the large stone telling the tale of Llewelyn and his unfortunate death. If you follow a path down some stairs towards the woods you'll come across a small well where Llewelyn II's head was supposedly kept after it was cut off by the victorious English. This is a must-see place to come and visit if you're Welsh

No excuses not to visit this if you're in the area!

.... unless it's really wet of course! The layby is right in front of the entrance and within 10m or so of the monument.

As one reviewer has already commented, if you visit the well beyond, you're in for a yappy time from the terrier dogs in the neighbouring property!

As yet another reviewer has already said, this is a required visit if you're Welsh.

Prince Llywelyn grave

This grave is situated in Cilmery and if you walk behind it and down some steps you will come to a well, where they washed Prince Llywelyn's head before sending it off to London.
