Good place to visit with small children
Jul 2020 • Keluarga
The House is rather smaller than what I had expected. However, they are holding individual guide for each visitor/group. small kids before school ages seem to enjoy the tale of Mr. Clutterbuck. Two outdoor car race tracks are available. One for kids under 100cm and the other for little elder one.

Hi, Thank you for your review! The house is a bit small, you're right. But full of details like the books of Mauri Kunnas. :D During autumn and winter months, we have a lot less visitors, which means that one can play and spend more time in each room.

Good place to visit with children
Jan 2020
The house had four different themed areas to explore and play in, plus an outdoor area which is more interesting in the summer. When we visited it was nice and quiet (only a few others). Our toddler loved to play in different areas so definitely a highlight of the day. Would recommend visiting this if you are in the area with children (a bit too remote for a detour). The fee is cheap as well.

Encouraging children to play
Agt 2019
Herra Hakkaraisen talo - the House of Mr Clutterbuck, is named after a well-loved character of a children's author, Mauri Kunnas. The house presents several themes of his books, e.g. the Knights of the Round Table, Space, and a small town Finland in the 19th century.

The house is not big, but the rooms are very carefully made and encourage children to submerge into play and using their imagination. There's also a room for just relaxing, reading and drawing. You don't need to know the stories or the characters in order to enjoy the place.

In the summer there is also a fun outdoor area where children can use pedal-cars in a miniature city. A summer cafe run by local youth sells coffee and snacks.

What my family best likes the place is the authentic, non-plastic feel about it, and how it encourages also bigger kids to play.

Depending on the child, I'd recommend it from ca. 2 years to 10 years of age.

PRO TIP
Herra Hakkaraisen talo is right next door to two cool museums suitable for kids, so you can make it a day of culture and fun.

Thank you so much for your review! You've captured nicely exactly all the things that we wish families, and children especially, to notice and feel. Welcome to play again, we are open all year round (except the pedal-cars, which you can use from May to October).

Very nice family attraction

We visited the house of Mr. Clutterbuck for about an hour with kids 4y, 2y + baby and enjoyed it a lot. The house is not too big but has very exciting rooms with for example space and knight themes. The outdoors area is great with pedal cars for bigger kids (ok for our 4 year old) and balance bikes for younger kids. Conveniently there is a nice restaurant/Café Pukstaavi next door where they serve lunch, and also a little cafe with sweet stuff next to the outdoors area. Mr. Clutterbuck himself also came for a visit (probably sleep walking again..) during our stay and kids had a chance to take photos with him.

Great

Great place for ~2-6 year olds. Enough to do for 3+ hours. Car track is great and even smaller than one meter tall kids can do it. Fireman pole was also very popular. Kids can play knights or astronauts. Full kids kitchen and village shop among others are also available. Kids can pretty much play with everything and get stuff out themselves. Staff is very friendly and helpful. The cafe was very basic, but next door you'll find restaurant. You can leave and come back with the entrance bracelet. You do not need to know the characters beforehand. Kids will love it anyway.

Brilliant family day out
Jul 2015 • Keluarga
We went for a day without knowing too much about the place and were so pleasantly surprised. Very reasonable admission fee and with the admission you were able to come and go as you pleased. Several different rooms inside to explore, all with different themes. Outside had big sandpit and brilliant pedal park. The kids absolutely loved it and grown ups weren't bored either!

Herra Hakkaraisen Talo is a small theme house based on the stories of Mauri Kunnas. Mr Hakkarainen (the sleeping goat) makes appearances in the house. There are different rooms to visit and play around. There is also an outside play area with cars kids can drive.

Wonderful place, lots of activities for kids, might get boring for bigger kids but for younger there's plenty to do! There is a cafe but it is a bit expensive, however there are picnic tables outside so bring your own lunch! Highly recommended place, gets the adults in a good mood too! :)

Nice place to visit with small children
Mei 2014 • Teman
You don´t even have to be familiar with Mauri Kunnas literature to visit. The place works well for children about 3-12 years of age. There are scenes from the story books, like the house of Mr Hakkarainen, with a nice kitchen and upstairs rooms with some ghosts and bats... including some acrobaty for the children to access all of the places...

There is also a scene of knights and ladies of the castle, a space ship, an old shop and a shoe maker´s room, as well as a room to draw and look dvd on Mauri Kunnas. During the summer time there is a traffic park on the yard for kids to enter. The same wristband-ticket goes for all activities through the day, and you may leave and enter again as you will for the whole day. Most activities are best with children with some self-reliancy and not very shy ones, since they work best if the child is willing to play and make up things to do by him/herself. There are costumes for the children to be worn in most scenes, and it is nice to take pictures of the scenery. There are lots of character dolls from the books, but please do not touch them. There is also a museum shop, with lots of Mr Hakkarainen stuff like clothes, games, puzzles and of course all of the books in different languages.

I think the place is worth a visit, even if you´re staying in Tampere and need to drive both ways to Sastamala (about one hour drive from Tampere). In that case, try some other attractions of Sastamala as well.

Something for Children
Jul 2013 • Keluarga
Herra Hakkaraisen Talo (Mr Hakkarainen's house) is based on illustrated stories by Mauri Kunnas, who originally is from Sastamala.

The house has a number of scenes from the story books and features some of the carachters, including Mr Hakkarainen himself.

The website (http://www.herrahakkaraisentalo.net/inenglish.php) has some information on the venue.

Definitely worth a visit, if you are travelling with small children.
