The island is located just offshore at the end of Corfu airport runway and easily accessed via a ferry shuttle service from the harbour for a return fee of 2.50euros per person. There’s no timetable but services are every 10 minutes or so and you can stay on the island for as long as you want and catch any returning ferry. There’s a chapel at the top of a flight of stairs, as well as a small shop selling drinks etc. the island itself is quite overgrown but you can easily walk the circumference. I heard a peacock in the bushes but never saw it

On our Holland America tour in Corfu, we stopped in Kanoni to view the Convent of Vlacherna and Mouse Island (aka Pontikonsi). The islet is known for hosting the Byzantine chapel of Pantokrator, dating back to the 11th century and only open to visitors every year on August sixth. However, we just had a photo stop here.

This small Island of Pontikonisi is better known as Mouse Island and is located at the mouth of the Halkiopoulos lagoon. It is in front of the famous Vlacherna Monastery and opposite to Corfu Airport's runway.
From the small harbour at Kanoni it is possible to take a boat ride around the Island of Pontikonisi, for €2.50.
The main feature of the Island is the small Byzantine chapel of Pantokrator which dates back to the 11th century. We were informed by the boatman that it only opens to visitors every year on August sixth.
We did not actually land on the but went around part of it and returned to Kanoni.
An enjoyable bit of fun and something a bit different and inexpensive to do.

Anyone arriving in Corfu by air will have flown over Mouse Island but I suspect relatively few of them take the trouble to visit it at firsthand.
My wife and myself duly did so this morning and much enjoyed our short visit which is facilitated by paying the Euros 2.50 return boat fare at the nearby port area. The boat completes the return journey every 10-15 minutes so you can stay on the Island for as long as you like.
It is a small island so not a great deal to see but both the Church (which dates back to the 16th Century) and the Cafe/Gift Store area are well worth 15 minutes of anyone’s time.
We certainly enjoyed our visit and - as such - would encourage more others (particularly all those who flock to the area daily to watch the aircraft arriving/departing from the nearby Corfu Airport) to also do so!!

Spent a while in this area sat having a drink watching the planes landing, went in the church then caught the little ferry boat across to mouse island, the man on the ferry made our day he was so friendly and let us take some great pics on the boat, the island has a little shop where you can get a drink and a little chapel, it was only 2 euro return and when your ready to come back he comes and gets you. Thanks again to the friendly ferry man.

Had a nice time on mouse island lots of history to it even though it’s very small. A well stocked little gift shop and the young man was very nice and friendly. The short boat ride over to the island was also goof and only €2 return fare well worth a visit if u like history.

For 2.50 Euros return this is a great little trip.
There is a man with a boat just before the monastery who takes you across and fetches you when you are ready.
It’s lovely to walk around and there’s a little church at the top that sells gifts etc and where you can get a take away drink.

interesting little island which can be reached with a Eu2.50 boat ride , it has greek mythology claimed origins and its name can be attributed because of the shape of the island or the white steps leading up to the chapel look like a mouse tail,
well worth a visit to experience the history or just have a look around.

My Dad has difficulty walking (not wheelchair bound, but he's slow and needs lots of breaks). Would he be able to visit Mouse Island from Vlacherna Monastery?

Hello, There is a boat that goes across to island and takes 5 mins. The staff on boat were helpful and there are many people with children and older people etc.The walk across is narrow but you can rest.I would say though that its uneven under foot

Hi- you have to go over a bridge walk across its quite a long bridge we parked our car, you can see the Island from where we parked. There are little boats every 5 mins that take you its cheap. You see a cafe on the left boats on right.

From what I remember, there is a Blue Bus NO.2 that goes around the city and stops where the Hotel Corfu Holiday palace is that place is area Kanoni. But I do not know if any boats go from there to the Pontikonisi (Mouse Island). Hope this helps.

Why is it called mouse island?!
MacedonianTraveller
skopje41 kontribusi
The island In Greek is called Pontikonisi, which means ‘Mouse Island’. One possibility how it gets this name is that if it is viewed from afar the island gets the contour of a mouse. According to a Greek legend the boat of Odysseus was turned into this island by Poseidon.
You can reach the island by a small boat which leaves from the small port opposite. The usual price is 2,5 Euros/person for both directions.
