We visited the centre on our way to Gokyo and then to EBC.

Beautiful location and stunning facility. Great coffee.

Brilliant work done on clearing the area of rubbish and making it easy to get involved as a trekker and not just be part of the problem.

And then there’s the art and the virtual reality. To me, it felt like it was the as if an artist took over the reins of a brilliant recycling initiative and brought in a personal interest in art and artists and tried to join them together. To me, the centre didn’t really talk enough about the rubbish collection, removal, community involvement etc. which is just brilliant and could have kept the audience engaged for an hour or so, as the other agenda of art and artists was being pushed instead.

And then the virtual reality tools showing a trip up Everest. Just another irrelevant idea taking away from what should be the real mission of clearing the Himalayas of rubbish.

So, wonderful facility with a mission that’s been spoiled by trying to do a variety of irrelevant things.

Just stick to rubbish and the wonderful work you’re doing in that area.

Discovered this by “accident,” (there are no accidents), as well as Moware Design, a Dutch firm, who were invited by this community in the Himalaya’s to act as design consultants—

on a wonderful little Youtube channel called “Never Too Small.” Try to say that in one breath! Forgive my sentence structure.

Don’t walk, run to the register and buy these exquisite objects d’art. Not only will they beautify your environment, the environment will be a benefactor of your largess.

For me personally, it’s a reminder that whatever my “Everest,”— that anything worth giving one’s life to— requires much.

And, it’s only in the pursuit of that goal that one discovers what they are really, truly made of.

Wow. Acclimatisation day above Namche. This place is a MUST when you have walked up the hill on your way to Everest View.

They are teaching us all about the value of waste and how our rubbish can be used in different ways.

From the sculptures of the mountain ranges made out of bottle tops, to a Danfe (the national bird of Nepal) made out of old beer cans, the art and inspiration you get from seeing all this in action is amazing.

They have a visitors centre which gives you the history of the region and you can even go to the top of Everest via VR (do it!)

Once you've had a tour, sit in the sun with a lovely coffee from their coffee shop while admiring the magnificent mountain ranges all around.

Then when you're done with your trek, pick up a carry me home bag from the checkpoint outside Namche and drop off at their collection point at Lukla and help get some of the rubbish we accumulate out of the region.

You will be inspired and educated and love every moment of your visit here. Definitely worth adding to your itinerary

Visiting this museum is exciting. Thanks also to an awareness film, we discover all the actions that are undertaken for the management of the waste that is left along the EBC Trek. The artworks made from plastic bottles, recycled papers or metals are remarkable and reflect the ingenuity and creativity of these Nepalese artists. The beauty of the landscapes of the Khumbu region that can be admired here by virtual reality is thus preserved. An example to follow.

The Sagarmatha Next project deals with the garbage problem in the Himalayas. Educating the locals and taking clear action to solve the problem.

In the museum, guest artists create works of art from garbage to raise awareness of the problem and also receive donations.

There is also a short video and a virtual reality experience. Climb Mount Everest in VR! It was really cool.

If you want to help yourself, you can volunteer and take 1kg of garbage with you on the way back from Nasche Bazaar to Lukla
