Best Day Ever at Sian Ka'an Biosphere - Mexico
Apr 2021 • Teman
Living Dreams Mexico took us to Sian Ka'an Biosphere where we boated, snorkeled, swam and looked for wildlife and birds. We also enjoyed a fresh caught fish lunch! Best day ever!! Thanks to wonderful guides that were super helpful and kind! We sure appreciate the special one on one attention we got from both Alieo and Reis!

Motorcycle ride from Tulum to Punta Allen through Sian Ka'an
Mar 2021
I rented a motorcycle (sort of like a dirt bike) and rode from Tulum to Punta Allen through Sian Ka'an. It took about 1.5 hours each way and by car I'm sure it's much longer.

It was a absolutely beautiful ride with very few people on the road. I saw an alligator at the bridge which was pretty cool.

The water was so blue so much of the trip. The only sad thing is seeing all the trash that washes up on shore :(

Biosphere Sian Kaan - What a shame that this place is called a biosphere!
Feb 2021 • Pasangan
We have stayed 2 weeks at the beaches of Tulum. We haven’t undertaken a solid research before we decided to come here. I was here 17 years ago and can tell now how I was shocked to see the difference. Plastic trash and seaweed all over. At least the beaches in front of the hotels are being cleaned every day - but I fear that the plastic trash is not managed as how it should be. Then we decided to go by bike to the Sian Ka‘an biosphere, hoping to see a different picture. We were shocked to see that there was the same situation. Plastic trash all over!! I eventually got the link to the 30 minutes documentary „The dark side of Tulum“, made in 2019 with Rachel Appel as director. I only can recommend to watch this film to everybody who plans to come here. We all take responsibility for our planet, to keep the wonderful nature as it is. Tulum and this biosphere is such a paradise and we need to take care that this beautiful region won‘t die. The responsible politicians should change immediately the current way of allowing the building of hotels without keeping minimum standards of sewage and waste management. The prices in Tulum are very high, the investment costs in contrast very low. So where does all the money flow when not even a small part is invested in ecological development and waste management? I only can encourage people to get informed and handle accordingly.

Would not consider going back until the road is fixed
Jan 2021
Well I always have to do things the hard way and not listen to other people's reviews. It's my bad, it's my fault that this was the worst day of our trip. 2 hours to drive in the worst 22 miles of your life EACH WAY. I don't even think I could enjoy the excursion because I knew we were in for that hellish drive home.

My bra broke even though I was holding my chest the entire time, that's how bad it was, and no one should be taking rental cars on that road, it's just rude.

All for what? To see a couple Dolphins and some birds? You can see them many other places with out that drive. Punta Allen was a nice little town I may want to return to some day if they fix the road, but I think I need at least a decade to recover from this last trip.

Do not use Easy Tours, don’t go by Jeep
Des 2020 • Teman
If you decide to take this trip, skip the Jeep and the bus and go straight by boat. My friend and I made the mistake to reserve the Jeep. It’s a 2-1/2 hour drive to go 30 miles to Punta Allen. (Plus another 2-1/2 to get back) This is a horrible road full of potholes and trash. To add to the misery, it was just 2 of us that reserved a Jeep so we had to chauffeur around 2 strangers also doing the tour, because tour operators want 4 people per Jeep. So we paid more than our passengers but I had to do all the driving. Also had to do all the interpreting because none of the guides spoke English. Do not use Easy Tours or at least just go on the boat all the way and skip the Jeep and the horrible road. It’s a scam.

Sian Ka'an way too overpriced!
Nov 2020 • Pasangan
Activities Way too overpriced! In Nov 2020: 1000 pesos/Pax (fixed price) for the boat trip including 30-40min "swimming/chilling" into the mayan canal.
My recommendation: stick to the Muyil ruins (45 pesos) + boardwalk and viewing point at top of the tower (50 pesos) and do something else with the money you saved!

Great place Bad Tour Agency
Okt 2020 • Keluarga
Sian Kaan was beautiful but booking through easy tours was a bad choice. They didnt supply snorkle gear like advertised, theu didnt speak much english and didnt provide us with any information during tour. The biosphere was beautiful. We saw dolphines and jungle, a couple turtles. Could have been amazing but due to bad guides it was just ok.

Diverse and Beautiful

This is one of those places for nature lovers. Upon entrance to the park (through Tulum) we paid 37 pesos each to enter. They gave us a wrist band so they knew we had paid. The road getting to Punta Allen is supposedly 33km, although it felt way longer but that’s probably because it’s a gravel road and a bit bumpy at times, so you’re traveling rather slow. Four wheel drive is not necessary but I’m sure it would be more enjoyable. We took a rental Nissan and it was fine. Be careful driving as there are a few blind corners and tons of iguanas sunbathing on the road.
Once we arrived we drove passed a tourist visitors sign and checked there prices for tours (3000 pesos/each for a private tour). We kept driving around a bit and checking prices and we ended up at fisherman’s lodge where we paid 2,200 pesos for a private guide to take us on a tour for 3 hours. We ended up getting along really well with our guide and our trip was probably around 5 hours rather than three, which was a huge bonus. We were the only ones out on the water. First we went out to sea and found huge sea turtles, then we went looking for dolphins but didn’t see any, after we went snorkeling and saw some beautiful fish, a sting ray and the reef. After that he took us to the natural beach where we swam around and got to know each other. (I took mostly videos on my GoPro and you unfortunately can’t post videos here but the turtles were huge and the dolphins very playful). On the way back we decided to check again for dolphins and we got lucky and saw some! Thanks to the Frigate birds!
Our guide was very knowledgeable and funny and we absolutely loved him.
After entrance fee, tip, the tour, the rental car, and gas from Cancún.. we spent around $150 usd for two people . Which is about half the price of the guided tours you can take from the hotels. Plus we had the luxury of exploring more on our own, staying for the sunset, checking out the town, etc.
I’d highly recommend renting a car for this one if you’re more of an adventurous type and on a budget.

•Some people said that the park was closed due to COVID but we had no issues entering and there were absolutely no other tourists.

•Bring mosquito repellent, biodegradable sunscreen, snacks and water.

•There are hotels and Cabañas you can rent along the road and in the town if you want, as well as restaurants.

•Entrance fee into the biosphere is 37 pesos/person.

• Look around for different prices and tours. Some tours will center around snorkeling, turtles and dolphins, while others will do river floats, manatees, crocodiles etc. Pick which is best for you and know that sometimes it’s best to shop around as the prices fluctuate a lot between companies and some people try to take advantage of tourists.

•Enjoy! 🥰

'Floating experience'
Mar 2020
This is definitely worth doing, especially on your own.

You have a choice of taxi, ADO, public bus, and collectivo. We took the taxi there, and got dropped off by the Muyil ruins. Since we wanted to ensure getting a boat for the floating experience, we went there first before viewing the ruins.

Pretty quickly, right on the highway, we were spotted by a local who escorted us to the biosphere (whether you want the escort or not). In the end, he was quite helpful and was not seeking any extra payment. To my surprise, he was the one taking the payment for the boat ride (even in front of the captain).

We were the first ones at the boat for the morning, so we got to the floating experience as the only ones there. The canals were beautiful!

Someone in a write-up suggested taking snorkel gear, but I disagree. I used my snorkel, and there is not much to see. Just enjoy the experience and view above water. There is much more to see snorkeling underwater at select cenotes.

They suggest you wear the life jacket like a diaper, and it was a great suggestion. This allows you to just peacefully float along upright. Many parts of the canal is quite shallow, so you do not always want to be verticle.

Afterwards, we walked the boardwalk trail, went up the wooden viewing platform, and checked out the Muyil ruins. There were two different admission fees (one for the biosphere area; and one for the Muyil ruins), plus the cost of doing the boat ride.

Afterwards, I recommend eating at the restaurant for lunch, across from the highway Restaurant Chunyaxche). It is a great home-cooked Mexican meal, and cheaper than eating in Tulum.
