This is a beautiful ancient site, best viewed after visiting the Museum, which shows what it would have looked like in its day and contains some amazing sclptures from the site. Entrance is via the Museum area and subject to Museum opening hours (morning and early afternoon). The visit offers a glimpse of how women and girls lived and were brought up in ancient Greece, rather than the usual male gods, warriors and athletes.

We were so awed to be standing in the site of the temple of Artemis. The museum next door shows a replica of the ancient temple. It was a wonder of the ancient world. Right now its just a pillar that's remaining. The stork builds its nest on the top. Its free entrance. We visited on the way from Ephesus site.

The ruins are more whole than others I saw around mainland Greece. There were no crowds and the museum was wonderful. The area with the ruins is beautiful and I saw a big turtle and other wildlife that seems really fitting for a temple of Artemis. You can go right up to the ruins and walk through them (no touching!) as long as you don't walk on the old stones, and there's a spring in the area. I would only caution that this place is in the middle of nowhere and I had almost no reception with Cosmote, making it almost impossible for me to call a taxi when I was ready to leave, putting a scary damper on an otherwise magical experience.

This site was restored as from the 1960’s. The site is compact but interesting enough and worth a visit. Also interesting on site is the ancient bridge.

An absolutely stunning location, the ruins are beautifully presented and the museum contains over 1500 artefacts recovered from the site. The staff were super friendly and well informed.

The only downside is, that as in many cases in Greece the site is very purely signposted. I saw many potentially visitors turning around and going to the wrong gate. How difficult can it be to provide decent, clear, signs?

This is one of the best sites I’ve visited in Greece. It is small by comparison to things in Athens but the ability to walk through it without crowds or a modern city all around make the size a plus rather than a detriment. The visual of the reddish stone columns against the green fields of olive and fig trees behind is stunning even if you aren’t interested in the historical context of the site.

For those interested in breaking from the patriarchal focus of so many sites and learn something about the culture connected to women and girls of Ancient Attica, THIS site is a MUST visit. It was here that young girls would stay as part of an ancient rite of passage that started in Athens and finished at this temple. Young girls would become “arctoi” (little bears) under the protection of Artemis before they became of marriageable age and lived for a time at this site.

In addition to the archeological site, the museum is small and personal with a fantastic display of mostly Artemis focused pieces with fantastic descriptions available in Greece and English. I could have spent hours reading every one.

Being less interested in Artemis than I am, my husband and adult son loved meandering around the site for a bit under an hour and had enough of the museum in about 30-45 minutes.

There is good signage and a guide is not needed (our guide did not know much about this site and couldn’t add much to what was already on the descriptions provided.)

If you’re interested in Greek mythology and have a particular interest in the goddesses, this temple is a must see.

This was a small set of ruins 5 minutes from our rental apartment. There is a walkway that meanders through the ruins that you have to stay on, but you can get pretty close, unlike at the bigger sites. The museum was also nice but an employee shadowed us the whole time like we were going to steal something. Still fun though.

Great site, well preserved given that its 2500 years old. The nature around it is beautiful and overall is definitely worth visiting together with the museum if you are in the area.
