A lovely trip through the history of Sicily with Michelango. Our 5 and 9 year olds were captivated with songs and stories. Great value, two hours well spent.

We visited in September 2020. I found this place on the internet when looking for quirky museums around Palermo. I emailed the owner who agreed to meet us. We took a train from Palermo to Bagheria then walked - perhaps 25 min but easy to find. It was a great experience - we loved it! I love anchovis for cooking so found this really interesting. We learned a lot about the history - Loved the old photos. Very happy to recommend - a must for any foodie visiting Palermo!

Had such a great time at the Anchovy Museum - felt very welcome and given a brilliant tour. It is well worth the stop-off here, one of the best things we did in Sicily. Thank you, 10/10!

Just a Fantastic Place!

I came to this wonderful Place and met amazing owners - Michelangelo Balistreri and his beautiful wife. When Michelangelo started singing i cried as i this song was dedicated to his mother. I learnt the information about Sicilian sea culture and was so excited! Thanks to You, Dear Michelangelo Balistreri, all Your team and firends!

What to say when you see fell and enjoy. Amazing , the only word to say. When you visit Sicily you have to see this beautiful museum whit it’s amazing narator Mr. Michelangelo Balistreri. Everything is already said about this museum , so , when you Are in Sicily “a must do “ is the only word to say.

This is a fascinating collection of objects associated with anchovy fishing in this area of Sicily. We were treated to a guided tour by the charismatic and welcoming owner, Michaelangelo Balastri, with the aid of a translating app on his phone. He sang to us, played his guitar, encouraged us to handle the objects and helped us to create tableaus for photos. Other parts of the museum had objects made by local artists from the wood of broken fishing boats and a whole room dedicated to the films of Giuseppe Tornatore, especially Cinema Paradiso. We were enchanted by our visit and left feeling that we had experienced something very unique in the world of museums. From the Lewis family.

A trip back to history!

If you happen to be near Aspra, you cannot miss to visit the Museo delle acciughe (museum of anchovies). The props that recreate a snapshot of life in Sicily as a fisherman, the stories explained by the savvy and witty Michelangelo Balistreri together with his way of singing you through every corner of the museum with local poetry in Sicilian dialect make it all a unique and extraordinary experience. I don’t want to give you any spoilers, but if you are familiar with some of the best Sicilia cinematography, I promise you will live an emotional moment in one particular room - I know I did! Michelangelo will win you over with his incredible knowledge of facts and history paired with an outstanding sense of humor.

randomly found this on trip advisor as a stop for our cefalu to palmero drive. the owner opened up specially for us cuz we were early, gave us a tour, sang a few songs, great memories

Stopped by to buy some local delicacies at the fish shop in Aspra and right below it we stumbled into the Anchovy Museum. Michelangelo Balistreri gave us an amazing tour of the museum which included lots of fun stories about the fishing industry. Definitively worth visiting, you will not regret it!
