A life-time unforgettable experience! In fact, rock-climbing is not my first time, but a non-trivial rock-climbing followed by the visit to several temples is unprecedented, and very unlikely to happen in the future. Still puzzled on how ancient people managed to build these wooden temples to last more than thousands of years!

Entrance to the main temple is on the opposite side of road from the carpark. You have to walk up more than 100 steps to reach the main hall, from there you can decide if you want to risk for the 900m mountain climbing to Nageiri Hall.

Temples and buildings in this area, with history of hundreds of years, are sacred and spiritual. I have not found much of refurbishment from these structures, the authentic look making them more untainted.

Opposite to direction of the entrance to main temple, alongside the carpark, at about 150m further, is the observation platform for visitors to view at a distance of Nageiri Hall.

Just getting into autumn colours, beautiful views, a bit of tree root scrambling and an interesting cultural experience.

I went up in December. I was a bit skeptical as I had some walking problem due to inflamed knee but I put on a knee bandage as I was looking forward to this. It was wet due to rain the day before but with the straw sandals it was good to climb as the sandals were able to grip onto wet rocks. The climb was pretty risky and dangerous as you need to pull yourself up with chains or ropes and roots and sometimes even walk on 4s. But remember to do it slowly and always help each other. You can only proceed if there are at least 2 of you. Just make sure you have a bottle of water, gloves and wear the straw sandals. All three are a must! It snowed when we reached up to Nageiredo but the view and scenery was just awesome!!

I was touring the area by motorcycle, so I didn't have time to hike up the mountain to see the temple.

I was touring the area by motorcycle to see the fall colors, and passes by this historic spot. The entire area around here is pretty epic for motorcycle touring, and I was driving along the FURUSTO road when I passes the temples here. Tthere is a great spot to stop and view the upper temple from the main road along the FURUSATO road. A few cars and even a bus stopped at the viewpoint as well while I was there.

Yoiu might want to budget some more time to hike up to at least the lower temples. The lower temples are rated at about 30 minutes, while the top is around 2 hours.

I'll be back for sure someday!

We ( 3 of us) went early in the Morning and were the first to visit and climb up to nageiredo (投入堂) ! First we must visit satbutsu-Ji to pray for safety and then walk to entrance to the main hike.

They check ur foot wear and I would highly recommended gloves ( which u can get at their reception for 100 yen) cuz there is a lot of grabbing on to rocks and chains to climb.

The view u get from all that effort of climbing is well worth! Visiting early meant that there were few ppl going up and down, so there is less traffic going up and down, which was definitely a plus, so that we can take as much time ( taking photos) or less time as we want. ( when we came down, there was a tour of 15 ppl plus going up..... and another group of 10 following. ) There are signs to indicate route in the midst in the forest, so it's not easy to get lost.

The hike up is way steeper than I expected but there´s something really enjoyable knowing you´ve had to work for your goal. This mountain is so beautiful and the midpoint views are great. We went with 4 people in total and that was perfect.

On Father's Day 2013
We went to Mount Mitoku.
Father and mother was almost 60s.
But,they were very healthy and active.
So we hiked.
First, Our footware was checked.
Because this Mt. is steep and slippery.
My father was down at the heel.
He was warned by a staff, but he did not need to change his footware.

Mt.Mitoku have a broad visual field and a great view and many fun ways.
For example, we shin up root of a tree and use chain handrails.

Essentially,Mt.mitoku is a religious training place.
You should not step into carelessly.
But if you understand faith, you can have a great experience.
Above all, I was impressed that we were able to approach to the temple that had been looked pretty small from the bottom.
I want to hike here many times.
