We toured the LeViti winery at the recommendation of a local restauranteur, in the town of Dogliani, Italy. LeViti is small winery with grapes; we are told, supplied from its own fields that have been in the family for at least two generations. We arrived during the grape harvest. The owner/operator and his lovely assistant nonetheless, gave our group of four an extensive tour of the facilities, from where the newly picked grapes are placed, to the pressing machinery, storage tanks for the must (including a sampling of a very recent crush, which was the best grape juice I ever had), fermentation tanks and bottling equipment. Of course we were also offered samplings of LeViti’s wines. We bought some bottles to bring back to Seattle, WA USA, and drank it during Christmas dinner. The wine’s label reads Le Viti Bric Sur Plan Annata 2013, Dogliani Superiore. Not being wine experts, the best our dinner party could come up with is that Sujperiore was very good and quite distinctive from what we are used to drinking. So, in summary, the winery tour conducted by a young couple carrying on a family tradition, the tasting of wines and must at the winery, and the ultimate enjoyment of the wine back in Seattle were all terrific experiences. I fully recommend anyone in the Dogliani area to stop by LeViti and enjoy the experience and wine.
