As a Harry Potter fan, this was a must do for us in the UK, but even if thats not your rationale, this is an amazingly beautiful, place to visit. We took the path just to Malham Cove, from the visitor centre car park. This gets you to the bottom of the cove in about 30 comfortable minutes of (pretty accessible) pathway through beautiful English countryside. If you want to get up to the top, there are rock stairs ( Didn’t count, but I’d guess around 300 steps). There were plenty of opportunities to rest along the way and admire the scenery. Because of this, even moderate fitness levels could achieve this. The views and rock formations at the top were spectacular. This is well worth it.
People were coming from the other direction and it seemed you may be able to do a longer loop from town starting in the opposite direction that didnt involve stairs, but we didnt have time for this longer loop so can’t confirm this.

Beautiful part of the county, we visited with our daughter and her boyfriend, he was blown away by the entire area, Gordale Scar, Janet’s Foss and the Cove were pretty quiet when we visited around 9am but began getting very busy

Lovely, lovely place. Lots of steps (can’t remember how many), but worth the effort. Take a picnic for the top and enjoy the stunning views.

A perfect day, we had great weather. The views are breathtaking. It was as busy as you can well expect. We didn't go to the top due to two of our group having dodgy knees. There are 400 steps to the top. It didn't spoil the surrounding views though. Good walking shoes are needed.

We did the walk to Janet's Foss but didn't have time to walk to Malham Cove as well. There are good walks in this area and all are well signposted. A lovely little village with pub and cafe.

We did the circular walk from the car park, through the village to Malham Cove, then to Janet's Foss and back to the car park and it was great. About 7-8km in total which we managed fine with our 6 and 2x3 year olds.
The walk is well signposted and well tread so you can find your way.
It's quite busy through the village on the road but once you're onto the trail it's lovely. There are 200 or so steps up to the top of the cove but very manageable even with little ones and great views once up there. It's then a nice gradual downhill walk through the fields to a food/ice cream truck and rest stop right by the falls.
Janet's Foss was a bit disappointing, it was very very busy with lots of people trying to get in and have a dip which took a way from what would be a pretty picturesque scene. Id probably advise going early and maybe visiting here first and doing the walk that way around as we arrived at the falls after lunch on a sunny day and it was crazy.
Parking: there is a good sized car park but you need to be there before mid morning otherwise it's gets very busy, lots of people to park on the main road before the car park however

I’d been desperate to visit this classic Geography textbook location for about 30 years. It was a beautiful day and it was indeed lovely. Getting to the village (and out again) was another story and it’s a shame that cars line the roads as there isn’t sufficient parking available in the village. I’m glad I’ve been but next time I’ll take a bus!

I'm not sure how the cove is not more widely known in the UK. It's spectacular and unique.
From below the cliffs are superb and from above the limestone pavements and views are breathtaking.
It's an easy walk from Malham on very good paths. There are good steps to get to the top that are easy to follow (take your time - there are a lot).
We visited as part of the Malham loop walk.

We did the circular walk from the main car park, first to the waterfalls and then to the Cove. Fabulous views on top of the famous limestone blocks. The footpaths are well signed.

What is the easiest walking route to the li mestone pavement above Malham Cove?

What’s malham cove like for someone with a disability?
Ditulis pada 22 Mei 2021
The route to the location is an uphill walk, and then there is a relatively narrow path on route to the Cove. To get up to the higher areas there is a stepped area which is quite steep!

My friend and I visited Malham cove last year and parked in the village but as we are elderly, couldn't manage the walk to the bpttom of the cove. Is there some other way to view from the top?
Ditulis pada 10 Januari 2021
When my wife and I visited Malham to see Malham Cove it was impossible to park in the Car Park on the edge of the Village. The road through the Village had cones placed on either side to prevent parking.
We decided to follow the road through the Village towards Malham Tarn. From this road it was possible at least to have a view of Malham Cove and the top of Malham Cove, albeit at a distance.
However, it is not easy to stop along the road especially if cars are travelling behind you as the road is quite narrow. But we managed to stop at a couple of places so that we could have a view of Malham Cove.

What best routine going to malham cove because i want to explore as wellas the janet floss and gordale scar in one walk. I have kids ages 10 amd 8 thats why i dont want to spoil our day and saying they are tired

It’s up to kids really. Mine are 5 and 10 and did full walk with no problem. Yes, it took us most of the day, we stopped couple times and we had a picnic with us, they loved it. They did well and went to sleep very early after .

I've read several reviews and answered questions, but I'm not sure I have fully understood. I am 71 and relatively fit for my age, but I'm a little concerned about climbing over 400 steps to get to the top for the view up there. I thought there might be a parking place somewhere else which might allow us to get to the top without climbing some or all of the steps. As a last resort, are there a number of places to take a break on the way up if steps are absolutely necessary. I really don't want to miss this opportunity. Any help or advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I’m not sure about the whereabouts of other parking spots, but you could take the walking route from Janets Foss to Malham cove and then down the 400 steps. It would be a longer trek, but there’s plenty of spots to have a rest. If you do decide to go up the steps, you can stop at either side of the steps or near the boulders to have a rest before continuing. Best of luck and hope you have a lovely trip.

Looks beautiful and would love to see waterfalls but have a fear of heights... How much of the walk is high?
Ditulis pada 21 Juni 2020
If you walk the circular route from the village via Janet’s Foss (waterfall) along to Gordale Scar, and back via the limestone pavement above it, you don’t have to go to the edge to look down. The path down isn’t particularly steep or slippery, and there are handrails, gates and lots of woodland around. No scary drops! My partner is a bit scared of heights, and felt absolutely fine doing it this way...

How close to the Cove can you get by car?
Ditulis pada 30 Agustus 2019
You can drop people off at the footpath 0.4 miles from the Cove, but you will need to drive on a further 0.5 miles to park the car.
