Museo Etnográfico Tanit is an ethnographic museum located in San Bartolomé, a town in the center of Lanzarote Island. It is an old building, where you can see some rooms with a lot of traditional an historical objects used in traditions, in the farm or in the town. Also, you can see a cellar and a inner terrace. Very interesting museum to know history of the place.

When we had a 2nd day of cold wind and rain we needed to find somewhere to go that was inside. We saw this place on Trip Advisor but the most recent review was over 2 years ago. We couldn’t decide if this was because it had been closed during the pandemic or if was indeed still open.
Decided to take a chance and really glad we did.
It’s an amazing museum stuffed full of everything under the sun. Very interesting and colourful and only €6 entrance fee.
Truly worth a visit. Just a shame the cafe wasn’t open.

Great little under promoted gem in this sleepy village almost at the centre of the island. We visited to find it very quite, I believe it’s not well known, shame it’s packed with finds and historical items from the history of Lanzarote from the Zonzamas period up to present day. Lots of items from 2000bc when the locals were not Spanish and thrived in a tree filled island with plenty of good land. Bowls and personal items are crammed into cabinets all throughout the buildings. The host handed us a newly produced English language guide which highlights many items. The same family have owned this building since it was built in 1730s and their belongings whilst wine related initially are what any museum worth it’s salt would hold if they too were trying to explain what the islanders life had been for hundreds of years.
Wander round room after room and buildings all over the site, then into the gardens to find more little knickknacks.
There is a shop with many items for sale, but no cafe which would I feel make this a site to spend more than an hour and a half like we did, guests want to sit, take in the atmosphere and have a drink of coffee and a bite to eat.

OK, some of the exhibits could definately do with a clean and polish. But polish is not what this museum is about - it is the quirkiness and genuine charm/love of the counrtyside and its history that isbtruly evident.
Lots (perhaps too much ?) to see with some very appealing exhibits of local wine (and authentic dust), also natural history and a special bit dedicated to the volcanic nature of the island.
Itis a charming museum with much to offer, including a chapel recycled from an old workshop.
Well worth looking at, and stepping away from the coast for a while.

We were not sure what to expect but were delighted with what we found. This museum, housed in an old winery, has so much to look at. It is a huge collection of anything and everything from bygone days in Lanzarote and is a testimony to the need to keep such items and memories alive. It is fascinating to see what people used in their everyday lives and for me, the sewing and needlecraft items were especially interesting. Lovely to see how patchwork and embroidery were used on the island. There are some beautiful examples of clothes and toys too, all of which are well displayed. The smell of the wine in the cellar was amazing.

outside there are beautiful mosaics on the ground and also a lovely little garden to walk around.
There are excellent toilet facilities and also a small café and gift shop.
We spent a good couple of hours in the museum but could easily have stayed longer.

Billed as an ethnographic museum this eclectic collection was assembled by a husband and his artist wife. Her imaginative and thought-provoking additions and juxtapositions enliven what could have been a rather dry assemblage of bygones. The museum fills every corner of an impressive old winery, even including a cosy table and chairs in a disused water cistern where the ever artistic Remy reputedly loves to play bridge when the museum is closed. Very well worth the modest entry fee.

Strange mix of exhibits but quite interesting. The place itself is attractive with some interesting art work layed in the outside floors. The explanation notes seem to be a word for word translation from Spanish so are a little strange. We found it easily enough. There is nothing but water and the cafe is closed.

The museum calls itself etnographic but is far from that. It is a private dwelling full of bric a brac collection of family artifacts mainly since XIX century. There is little logic in whole collection and little explanation as to the past of Lanzarote inhabitants or artifacts themselves. Some parts are just cluttered and dusted. the collection consist of mixture of items ranging from clothes, toys, old agricultural tools, furniture, newspapers articles, old books and photos. Overall it resembles large car-boot sale with 6€ entry.

The architecture is really interesting. Some lovely freezes . Nice range of interesting artefacts . Shame the catering wasn't open but there is a nice little cafe through the Plaza opposite and the museum and gardens are a nice little hour sejourne before or after visiting the wine bodegas in la Geria
