Nelson Mandela capture site has an entry fee that you have to pay to access the museum and the actual structure. Very good display of South African History and huge screens playing videos. Items and pictures from the past are displayed and there is a little shop on site. There is a walk down to the Nelson Mandela steel structure. Very beautiful. Restaurant on site as well.

I have been here before and went through the temporary exhibition while the permanent building was being built. The content was exceptionally good and I assume that was transferred to the new building. The sculpture is definitely worth seeing too.
BUT R100 per person is ludicrous. We left the last time I was there as that is too expensive. And it's wrong because this a part of our South African heritage that we want to be educated about. There were a total of 14 people who turned away just due to the cost.
Such a pity.

We had absolutely no problem with the fee that includes a museum (opened in 2020) with an engaging audio visual experience as well as interesting displays. The surrounding video experience creates a visceral journey that primes you for what happened here. We thought it was excellent. You are then led down a path with markers along the route noting important dates in Mandela’s life as well as events in the country. It’s very poignant. The sculpture is phenomenal and the experience of witnessing it reveal itself very slowly is symbolic of the ‘long walk to freedom’. If you take your time and let them guide you through the experience they have created you will be hard pushed to begrudge them R100 entry (60+ are R60). Well worth it and cheap by international standards. The staff were ultra friendly, I was impressed by that, and the toilets were also excellent.

I was deeply moved by the manner in which this experience was presented. It was an experience. It's a must for any South African.

The picture of Nelson Mandela is a fabulous piece of art.
It looks like a a jumble of iron poles, until you looks at it from a particular view point.

There is nothing else to see on the site, so don’t expect to spend hours there.

I have been here many times before, entrance used to be free. On my recent visit, I noticed the place has been upgraded, although that is appreciated, the R100 adult entrance fee is not worth it.

There isn’t anything to do, only worth the drive if you are passing.

What a terrible experience! For the past few years I have gone to this place with different Russian friends maybe 5 or 6 times. We usually stop on the side of the road to see the memorial where Mandela was arrested, and then we walk across the road to look at the sculpture. Nowhere are there any signs to say you have to pay, or report to some kind of reception.

Last week I went again with Russian friends from Moscow. When we approached the sculpture, some rude, black security guy starts screaming at us and getting totally hysterical and super aggressive. We then understood that we were supposed report to the reception and pay before entering. This was not the case before, as we understood that payment was only necessary if one wanted to visit the museum. The more we tried to explain that we are quite willing to go and pay, the more threatening he became. One would think that in a time when tourists are so scarce, they would welcome us with open arms, but no, he was not at all interested, and even threatened to arrest us!

This place will never see me, or any of my friends again. I will be sure to spread his experience far and wide. I have many followers on my Russian blog about South Africa, and will be sure to let them all know to avoid such a rude and unpleasant place.

A fee of R50 to walk down the path and read laser cut metal signs describing 27 key points of Nelson Mandela’s life to the sculpture feels excessive for a completely outdoors monument. This option is not on the price list and receipts for it are difficulty come by. This fee is an obstacle in accessibility for all South Africans

It is such a special place where people who are South African can realise what Nelson Mandela did for the freedom of people and that all people should be treated with respect and dignity

While in the area we decided to go to the Nelson Mandela Capture Site.
It was such a great experience.

We paid for the adults to enter but the small children could enter for free.

It gave us a whole new understanding on Nelson Mandela.

Really beautifully done and definitely a must when you are in the area.
