Probably the town´s main attraction, it is a part roman part medieval fountain, considered to be one of the most beautiful in Italy. It was located in another part of town and move to its present location after the wwii bombings.

Its a lovely structure originally from the 13th century, made up of different blocks from various parts of Isernia, has been moved several times and now located in Piazza Celestino.
The locals make use of it, filling up their pails with water from the 6 spouts.
Its lit at night and you can admire it while sipping on an aperitif at one of the bars in the piazza.

I am an American and often come to this part of Italy to visit family.
Looking at the Fontana Fraterna always leaves me awe-inspired!
The history is superb and little known. It is in a section of Isernia with a lot of bars and shops. It is so cool to have a drink outside in the square at night with the Fontana glowing behind you.

Definitely worth a visit if in town or close by. The town is lovely and typically Italian full of charm and welcoming people!

Just happened upon it while looking for the tourist info office. Thought it looked interesting & didn't realize the history behind it. Seemed out of place in its current location, though.

This exceptionally beautiful fountain is sadly lost in a corner of a rather hideous piazza in Isernia, dominated by odd cafes playing out-of-place music. If you can phase all that out and concentrate on the loveliness of this stone palimpsest, you will be witnessing a chunk of Italian history.

This fountain was moved here as the story goes.
There are several sections to out. Crypt stones are used as part of the construction taken from Roman times of ruin. When people stole graves and reused the stones to build other things like this.
The location of this fountain is in the "Town Square" which people actually used to live in before in had been bombed. There were also shops and market areas here too.
This fountain still holds water and people still use it.
